Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team to Host Sixth Annual Kids Camp in Manchester, New Hampshire June 10-17

RESTON, Va. – The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) will be hosting their sixth annual Kids Camp on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H. from June 10-17. Members of the WWAST will serve as coaches and mentors for 20 children with amputations or missing limbs during this weeklong event.

In addition to a week of softball, the kids and the team will take in local sights and attractions, including a tour of Boston. The last event of the week is the “Big Game” set to take place on June 16 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, the home of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats minor league baseball team. Game 1 features the kids at 2 p.m. ET with Game 2 pitting the WWAST against local celebrities at 4 p.m. ET. Gates are set to open at 1 p.m. ET

Tickets will also be for sale at the stadium for $10. Children ages 8 and under will receive free admission. All proceeds will benefit the WWAST Kids Camp.

“The Kids Camp encompasses everything that the WWAST hopes to achieve in its mission to inspire others”, said WWAST Player and Board Member, Brian Gentilotti. “Our team embodies the true meaning of service beyond the uniform. It is our absolute privilege to mentor these kids with ‘so-called’ disabilities. From the outside, it may seem like the WWAST is the one giving back but in reality, it is the kids that give back to us. It is a blessing and a privilege to host this camp.”

The WWAST is made up of brave men and women, both veterans and active duty soldiers, from all service branches who have sustained injuries resulting in amputation. Through extensive rehabilitation, they have become competitive athletes again, playing against able-bodied teams in competitive, celebrity, and exhibition games across the country.

In addition to functioning as an outlet for veterans and active duty soldiers to compete athletically, the WWAST uses these cross-country games to raise funds for the WWAST Kids Camp, medical research, and rehabilitation equipment. Now in its sixth year, the WWAST Kids Camp seeks to empower young boys and girls with amputations. The camps are led by WWAST players who work as coaches and mentors, helping teach not just softball skills but life skills as well.
