All of us at ISC Canada East want to thank the teams, players, fans, umpires and especially the host committee led by AJ Moses and Jeff Pauli and all of the volunteers in Mitchell as we celebrate a record-breaking 2018 Qualifier event with three new champions.

 

Congratulations to Kingston Axemen, our 2018 ISC Canada East Qualifier Champion. The Axemen finished the weekend undefeated, the only team to do so. Owen Sound Selects won the ISC Canada East U23 Championship, sponsored by Armitage Technologies, and Waterloo Legends, captured the inaugural ISC Canada East Legends Championship, fittingly sponsored by Golden Triangle Glass.

 

Our hosts, Mitchell Mets and their legion of sponsors and volunteers, including the Mitchell Jr. C Hawks (refreshments), Mitchell Legion, br. 128 (food), Mitchell Curling Club (gate/admissions) and the Mitchell Jr. Mets (grounds crew and PA) kept the beverages ice cold, fed everyone with terrific ballpark food and kept the diamonds running. Keterson Park (with a big assist from the Monkton Ball Park) is one of the very few facilities that could host an event of this size and we thank AJ for leading the host committee as it truly takes a lot of people to pull off an event of this magnitude. We humbly thank everyone who played a role in hosting this event – it didn’t go unnoticed. 

 

A special shout-out to LiveWell4Life Fitness Centre in Mitchell for sponsoring the live streaming from Diamond A which was enjoyed globally. Andy Bader, of the Mitchell Advocate, put together a terrific program and provided great media coverage. 

 

Thanks to Paul Sutton who donated the ISC Canada East ice chest and congratulations to winner John Moses! We will be making a donation of $300 to the Huron Perth branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, which are 100% of the proceeds from the tickets sold.

 

We also want to thank ISC UiC Bruce Bierman who put together a fantastic Blue Crew for this weekend, which was led on site by Lou Davis and Trevor Topping. Chris Lamer, Dave Mills, Dave Thomson, Ed Otterman, Fred Malatches, Jim Heckman, Mike D’Abreu, Mike Morrissey, Mike Nalysnyk, Mitch Zuk,

Lastly, we thank the newest member of the ISC Canada East team, Erin Durant, who jumped right into the deep end, wrangling team managers and coaches like a pro and interpreting scoresheets like she’s been doing it for years. Even after spending over 40 hours at the park with us on the weekend, Erin says she’s willing to do it again.
