In their goal of improving upon their best-ever result at the World’s (6th place from East London 2000), the Czech men’s national fastpitch team are looking to improve the pool of pitching talent available in the Czech Republic. The governing body, Czech Softball, are looking for international pitchers who would be willing to spend two months in the Czech Republic in the time leading up to the first World Championship ever to be held on European soil.
The pitchers are expected to arrive in the Czech Republic in early April 2019 and to stay here until early June. They will be assigned to a team from the top Czech competition – the Extraleague. Every two weeks, their teams will play two double-headers (Saturday and Sunday). The pitcher will be expected to pitch at least one game every day. Apart from this, the pitchers will be expected to be available for the national team training sessions, which will be held twice per week. There will also be several training camps on the weekends when league games are not played.
Czech Softball will cover the pitcher’s airfare from a destination of their choosing to Prague and back. Each club will be given USD 3,000 (or USD 3,500 for a left-handed pitcher) to cover expenses related to accommodation, food and the pitcher’s “salaryâ€.

This is a unique opportunity to spend the spring leading up to the WBSC World Championship in the country where it will be held. The Czech Republic is also a good starting point for travelling around Europe (Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Warsaw are a few hours’ train ride away). The pitcher will be given a free ticket to the World’s so that he can enjoy the world’s best ball players in one of the world’s most beautiful and picturesque cities.
