Sydney, AU - - New Zealand White Sox to attend the Asia Pacific Cup
The pathway to Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification continues with the White Sox confirming their entry to the Asia Pacific Cup, to be held from 31 January to 3 February 2019 at Blacktown International Sportspark, Sydney. The world-class, international event will showcase some of the best softball players in the world with teams from Australia, Japan, Italy, China, New Zealand and Chinese Taipei expected to attend.
The Asia Pacific Cup is a key tournament to continue to blood domestic players against the best players and teams in the world.
It is an opportunity for the White Sox to bounce back from a disappointing performance at the 2018 World Championships in Chiba, Japan. Â
As per last year’s attendance at the Asia Pacific Cup the White Sox team will rely on the domestic player’s base to make up the team. Head Coach Kevin Gettins views this as a great opportunity for domestic players to get selected and be measured against some of the world’s best players. Being able to compete at this level of competition consistently is critical for the White Sox going forward.
Selectors for the team to compete at the Asia Pacific Cup will attend the Benny Luke Memorial Premier Women’s Club Tournament on 3 – 4 November, hosted by the Saints Softball Club in Hutt Valley; and the Bev Smith Memorial Premier Women’s Club Tournament on 30 November – 2 December, hosted by Howick Softball Club in Auckland. The team will be announced in early December.
