Spartanburg, S.C. – The U-19 Women’s National Team (U-19 WNT) finished their final two days of training camp in Spartanburg with a 23-1 win against Rock Gold on July 21 and a 1-0 win against St. Louis Chaos on July 22.

Game One: U-19 WNT 23, Rock Gold 1
Box Score

The scoring came early and often for Team USA against Rock Gold. Julia Cottrill (Stillwater, Okla.) started it off with a single to right field in the second inning to drive in Jasmine Sievers (Laguna Niguel, Calif.). The U.S. broke it open in the bottom of the third scoring seven runs highlighted by an RBI double from Taylor Pleasants (Houston, Texas) and a two-run homerun from Bailey Dowling (St. Joseph, Ill.).

Team USA put on an offensive showcase Sunday night with 32 hits from 14 different players, 21 of which were singles. The long ball was not forgotten though, Skylar Wallace (Woodstock, Ga.), Cottrill and Dowling all cleared the fence against Rock Gold each with a two-run homerun. The bottom of the lineup came up big for the U.S. going 4-4 all in two out situations.

Kathryn Sandercock (McLean, Va.) started in the circle but it was a trio of pitchers that did the work for the U.S. Rylee Trilicek (Hallettsville, Texas), Megan Faraimo (Vista, Calif.) and Sandercock tossed a combined two hitter with 13 strikeouts.

“We had a lot of people contributing tonight,” said U-19 WNT Head Coach, Heather Tarr (Redmond, Wash./Head Coach at Washington). “In general, over the course of the game, I think what impressed me most is that we didn’t take a pitch off. We just continued to compete and play the game no matter what the score was, and it was good to see us produce offensively.”

Game Two: U-19 WNT 1, St. Louis Chaos 0
Box Score

Against the St. Louis Chaos on Monday night pitching was the name of the game. Kelley Lynch (Newnan, Ga.), Lexi Kilfoyl (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) and Montana Fouts (Grayson, Ky.) combined for a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts.

The U.S. pushed their one run across in the bottom of the third inning when Skylar Wallace (Woodstock, Ga.) stole second providing enough time for Kelli Godin (Seal Beach, Calif.) to get home.  It was lights out from there with seven of the strikeouts coming after the U.S. secured their 1-0 lead.

“These past two days in Spartanburg were awesome. We had the opportunity to compete and today was tough,” Tarr said. “We got to face two good pitchers that are going to give us a good opportunity to work from and continue to grow as a group. The next time we come together won’t be until August but we’re looking forward to coming back together as a team.”

The U-19 WNT will travel to Irvine, Calif. to compete in the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-19 Women’s World Cup beginning on August 10. Top ranked Team USA will face No. 5 Mexico in the opening matchup on August 10 at 8 p.m. on their quest for a third straight World Cup title.
