OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2019 National Championship season for the USA Softball Girls’ Junior Olympic (JO) Class A Division has come to a close as six teams concluded their season by claiming a coveted “Big Six” USA Softball National Championship. The USA Softball Girls’ 12-Under (Normal, Ill.), 14-Under (Roseville, Calif.), 16-Under (Salem, Va.) and 18-Under (Montgomery, Ala.) Class A National Championship Finals took place July 22-28 while the Girls’ 10-Under Class A East (Johnson City, Tenn.) and West (Broken Arrow, Okla.) were held July 24-28.

At the Girls’ 10-Under Class A East Fast Pitch National Championship in Johnson City, Tenn., the Atlanta Vipers - Stewart took home the title in a closely fought 9-8 game over Carolina Elite 08 - Watson.  The Atlanta Vipers – Stewart went undefeated on their path to claim the 10-Under Class A East Fast Pitch National Championship and earned a spot to compete for the title by posting an 11-1 win over Team North Carolina – Newell. Carolina Elite 08 – Watson fought through the losers’ bracket after dropping their second bracket play contest to Team North Carolina – Newell by a score of 5-4. The team went on to win five-consecutive games to compete against Atlanta Vipers – Stewart, falling just one run shy of forcing an “if-necessary” contest for the title.
 
KC Storm 08 emerged as the victor at the Girls’ 10-Under Class A West Fast Pitch National Championship in Broken Arrow, Okla. KC Storm 08 defeated NW Legacy Trickel 6-3 in the “if-necessary” game after edging the undefeated squad 7-6 in the Championship Game. KC Storm 08 landed in the losers’ bracket after dropping a 5-2 decision to NW Legacy Trickel earlier in the tournament.
 
TN Heat 06 took home the Girls’ 12-Under Class A National Championship title with an 8-6 win over Florida Impact Ladd 06 in the “if-necessary” game. TN Heat went 5-0 to earn a spot in the Championship Game, where Florida Impact Ladd 06 forced the extra contest after shutting out the then-undefeated team, 1-0. Florida Impact Ladd 06 dropped into the losers’ bracket after falling previously to the TN Heat 11-9 in bracket play. After the loss, the team captured three win-or-go-home games to setup the rematch in the Championship Game.
 
At the Girls’ 14-Under Class A National Championship, held in Roseville, Calif., it was West Bay Warriors Gold who earned the title after defeating PS33 Academy National 12-2 (five innings). Going undefeated through bracket play on their way to the title, the West Bay Warriors Gold outscored opponents 69-18. PS33 Academy National earned their spot in the Championship Game by defeating LTG 2022 Carda_Seva in the losers’ bracket after narrowly losing 10-9 to West Bay Warriors Gold in the winners’ bracket finale.
 
In Salem, Va., Hotshots Platinum – Knoop were crowned National Champions after posting a 9-2 win over Intensity 16U – Ralph/Francis in the title game. Hotshots Platinum – Knoop captured six wins to earn the right to compete for the trophy while Intensity 16U – Ralph/Francis fell into the losers’ bracket in an 8-2 loss to Hotshots Platinum – Knopp in the winners’ bracket finale. The team staved off elimination with a 10-2 win over Shockwaves Rayman before falling in the Championship Game.
 
Closing out JO Class A National Championship play was the Girls’ 18-Under Class A in Montgomery, Ala. The National Championship game pitted the undefeated Alabama Sparks Elite-Stewart in a rematch against Georgia Power Demarini-Worley. Georgia Power Demarini-Worley erupted for nine hits to get the 9-1 five inning run-rule victory to send the teams into a deciding game to determine the Girls’ Class A 18-Under National Champion. With the game going into extra-innings, Alabama Sparks Elite-Stewart got the timely hit with the bases loaded and no outs to give the team the win for the National Championship in walk-off fashion. The thrilling walk-off was the perfect ending for a week full of exciting action in Montgomery.
 
Closing out the 2019 JO Fast Pitch National Championship season is the Girls’ 16-Under and 18-Under GOLD National Championships, which are underway in Plano, Texas. With 71 teams competing between the two divisions, live stats and video coverage will be available all week long at USASoftball.com.
 
Action for the JO Slow Pitch division will take place August 1-4 with the Boys’ and Girls’ Slow Pitch National Championship Finals. The Boys’ division, 10-Under, 12-Under, 14-Under, 16-Under and 18-Under, will be held in South Bend, Ind. while the Girls’ division, same age groups, will compete in Sioux Falls, S.D.
