OBITUARY

By Peter Kluszczynski:

I received some bad news that my good friend Sam Lipari past away. He was everything that an umpire would want to be. He was looking forward to start the next season in his 75th year of umpiring!! This man is a legend and a role model to all umpires across Canada and all over the world. Even in his 74th year his shirts were ironed his pants dry cleaned, his hat perfect and his shoes were shined. He umpired back in the day when I played ball and anyone who played back then would know Sammy. He started his career in umpiring at the age of 16. He never stopped umpiring until now at the age of 91. I had the pleasure to attend Sammy's 90th birthday party, attached are pictures of that party. He was very emotional and thankful for the jacket and award he received from Softball Ontario. The award read thank you for servicing diamonds across Ontario!! I know Sammy when you arrive in heaven you will be driving your cadillac to the game up there with all your umpire gear ready to go and I know the first words you will say is "PLAY BALL"
