OKLAHOMA CITY –– The names of the appointed officials for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games have been unveiled by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) with USA Softball of Southern California’s Christina Drumm (Oceanside, Calif.) being included on the list of eleven umpires from across the globe.
 
"To receive the assignment to umpire the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is a true testament to her skills and abilities," said USA Softball Chief Executive Office, Craig Cress. "Representing your country on the international stage is an extraordinary honor for her along with the entire USA Softball umpire program. To be recognized by the WBSC is a credit to the work and dedication that she has put into her career, and we know that she will represent USA Softball very will this summer when the sport of softball is on display."
 
Drumm joins the staff of officials for the XXXII Olympic Summer Games softball competitions having extensive international umpiring experience. Drumm’s international resume includes getting the call at the WBSC Americas Softball Olympic Qualifier, a qualifying tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, in addition to the World Cup of Softball five times, the 2009 Chinese National Games, 2016 Japan All-Star Series and WBSC Junior Women’s and Women’s World Championships
 
“I'm extremely humbled and honored to represent the United States in the 2020 Olympic games,” said Drumm upon selection. “I'm grateful to all that have mentored and supported me throughout my umpiring journey. I appreciate the opportunities that USA Softball has provided me in order to achieve this tremendous lifetime goal.”
 
A member of the San Diego County Sports Hall of Fame class of 2011, Drumm received her WBSC certification in 2003 and was named to the USA Softball National Umpiring Staff in 2015 where she serves as the Deputy Director of the Western Territory.
 
In accordance with WBSC guidelines, all appointed officials have been involved in top WBSC events over the past three years and will continue officiating in top WBSC events in 2020. While performance was the primary selection criteria, the Officials Committee also looked at geographic spread of the officials to ensure that all continents are represented.
 
Umpires are selected to represent the United States at WBSC-sanctioned events through their affiliation with USA Softball, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States.  To find out how you can become a WBSC-certified umpire, please visit USASoftball.com.
