As a Fastball player, coach and manager for over 50 years I can honestly say when Team Canada's Women's National Team steps on the diamond in two weeks to begin their pursuit of an Olympic gold medal, they will carry with them the dreams of every boy, girl, man or women who ever played the game in this great country.
So many legendary players have dusted dirt off their uniforms from St. John's to Victoria, and every province in between. For Canadians it was always the dream to play the game we love at the highest level, but alas it has never been the wish of the the Olympic Committee to include men's fastball in that bench mark of athletic excellence...the Olympic Games.
This year we are blessed to see the women's game again receive that well deserved opportunity to join the roster of events that are scheduled for competition, in Tokyo.
 Team Canada has worked tirelessly for months, the players have made personal sacrifices away from home and family to hone their extraordinary skills, and the coaching team has reached out to deliver excellence in both leadership and on diamond skill development.
The men's game has always missed the incredible honour and excitement of the Olympic experience, but this time around we are getting a chance to share the competition with two of our men's games true legends...Head Coach Mark Smith , a fireball throwing left handed pitching ace, and power hitter...and Assistant Coach, Chris Jones, one of the greatest shortstops Canada or any other country has ever known, and a veteran of some of the games legendary club teams as well as Team Canada's Men's National Team star for years.
From every player, coach, teammate, sponsor or member of the opposition who ever shared the bench or diamond dirt with Smitty or CJ we wish you our sincere Best Wishes in your pursuit of Olympic excellence. Carry the flag for Canada, and for every teammate you know would have loved the opportunity that you guys will live in leading our ladies team.
The game has been so good to so many great players, alas the Olympic Games may never know what it missed by not including men's fastball.
Go Get 'EM Team Canada Women...listen to all of your coaches but remember Smitty and CJ are carrying the men's game in their bags too.
