AUCKLAND, New Zealand – The competition continued today at the 2022 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Men's Softball World Cup as Team USA jumped out on top early, but a spark from the Canada offense late in the game resulted a 4-3 loss for the Eagles in Game 1 of Super Round. Driving in all three runs for the U.S. Men's National Team (MNT), Cam Schiller blasted his first home run of the tournament with a three-run shot in the top of the second while hits from Blaine Milheim (2), Yusef Davis (1) and Matt Palazzo (1) also contributed to the U.S. offense. Brad Kilpatrick went the distance in the circle for Team USA, striking out five Canadian batters through six innings of work.
Continuing its quest for the WBSC World Cup title, the Eagles will take on Australia in Game 2 of Super Round tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. NZST (Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. CT) followed by the final Super Round contest against Venezuela on Dec. 3 at 12 p.m. NZST (Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. CT). Following Super Round, the top two teams amongst Argentina, Australia, Canada, Cuba, United States and Venezuela will go head-to-head in the World Championship Final on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. NZST (Dec. 3 at 9 pm. CT) while the third and fourth-place teams will compete for the bronze medal earlier that day.
