Glen Douglas Moreland 

Born : January 8th, 1959,   

 

One of the finest fastball pitchers to ever come out  of Richmond Hill. An international career in the game of fastpitch softball that spanned over 40 years. Glen played the game the way it was supposed to be played with sportsmanship and integrity. A determined, durable competitor who was admired and respected by both his teammates and opponents. He participated in six Canadian National Championships, one ISF World Tournament and nine ISC World Tournaments. Glen was a member of the Canadian National Fastball Team from 1986-1989 winning the Gold medal at the Pan-American Games in 1987 and the Bronze medal at the ISF World Championships in 1988. Over the years he has thrown  no-hitters and perfect games once striking out 26 of the 27 batters he faced. Retired from competitive fastball in 2008 Glen continues to teach the youngsters of the Netherlands the art of pitching. 

 

1965-1976 Played as a youngster in the Richmond Hill Minor Softball League and won championships with Town Representative Teams. 

 

1976 Representing Richmond Hill won the Silver medal in the Ontario Midget Championships against Owen Sound. 

 

1978-1979 Won back to back Most Valuable Player Awards in the Richmond Hill Men’s Fastball League 

 

1980 As a member of the Richmond Hill Dynes Jewellers Junior team pitched them to a championship in The Toronto Beaches League. Also winner of the MVP Award at the CNE Bulova Watch Tournament in Toronto. 

 

1981 Represents Eastern Ontario at the ISC World Tournament in Saginaw, Michigan as a member of the Newmarket Nationals. 

 

1982 Won the Best Pitcher Award with the Newmarket Nationals. At the age of 23 wins the Most Valuable Pitcher Award in the prestigious Ontario Fastball League with an E.R.A. of 0.95.  Place 5th at the ISC World Tournament in Kimberly, Wisconsin defeating 2 past ISC Champions along the way. 

 

1983 Wins Newmarket’s Best Pitcher Award and represents Ontario at the ISC World Tournament in Bakersfield, California 

 

1984 All-star pitcher Hilo, Hawaai Tournament. Pitches Oshawa Merchants to the Senior Men’s Provincial Elimination Fastball Champions. Wins the Bronze medal at the Canadian National Championships in Fredricton , New Brunswick. Wins the MVP Award at the CNE’s Bulova Watch Tournament in Toronto, Ontario.. 

 

1985 Winnner of the Silver medal at the Ontario Provincial Elimination Tournament in Kemptville, Ontario. As a member of the host team Waterloo Chymrs led the team to a Bronze medal at the Canadian National Championships. Won the Best Pitcher Award at the Thetford Mines Tournament in Quebec. Top Pitcher award for the Newmarket Nationals and represented Ontario at the ISC World tournament in Kimberly, Wisconsin. Threw 5 games (37 innings) 

on the fial day of The Fenelon Falls Tournament to win both the tournament and the MVP Award. 

 

1986 Pitcher of the Year for the Newmarket Nationals who win the Inter City Fastball League Championship. Winnner of the MVP Award at the Waterloo International Fastball Tournament including a perfect game. 

 

1987 Winner of the Silver medal at the Ontario Provincial Elimination Tournament in Sarnia, Ontario. Winner of the Best Pitcher and Most Wins Awards in The Memorial Fastball League as a member of the Dorchester Merchants. Gold medal winner as a member of The Canadian Fastball Team at The Pan American Games in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A. 

 

1988 Gold medal winner at the Ontario Provincial Elimination Tournament. Silver medal winner at the Canadian National Championships in Kelowna, B. C. Bronze medal winner at the ISF World Tournament in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as a member of Team Canada (Pitching W/L Record of 4-0). Bronze medal winner with Owen Sound Tireman at the ISC World Tournament in Decatur, Illinois.  

 

1989 Winner of the ISC East Provincial Championship Tournament and representative at the ISC World Tournament in Kimberly, Wisconsin. 

 

1990 Winner of the Best Pitcher Award at The Buffalo, New York International Tournament . Winner of The Perth Shootout Tournament in Ottawa, Ontario. 

 

1994 Represents Ontario at the Canadian National Championships in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and at The ISC World Tournament in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. 

 

1995 Represents Ontario at The Canadian National Championships in St. John’s, Newfoundland as a member of the Owen Sound Tireman. As a member of The Richmond Hill Merchants throws 4 games, including a no-hitter on the final day to win the Meaford, Ontario Fastball Tournament. 

 

1997 Winner of the Top Pitcher Award at the Scarborough Fastball Tournament as a member of the Richmond Hill Merchants. 

 

2001 Winner of the Best Pitcher National Award for the Netherlands 

 

2002 League leader in wins and ERA and 2nd in strikeouts in the Dutch National League for EHS Haarlem  

 

2003 National Land Champions of Holland with EHS Haarlem, the Netherlands.
