Thomson Merchants in Walcott Memorial Day Tournament & Quad Cities League

The Thomson Merchants welcomed back 2 more players for the recently completed Wallcott Memorial Day Tournament. New Zealand pitcher and catcher combination Steven Manson and Casey Eden were part of the playing roster for the first time this season and the team enjoyed instant success in the first game of the tournament versus fellow ISC bound team, the Midwest Stampede. The Merchants could not back up this success over the weekend and lost the next three games vs Dolan and Murphy, New Image and eventual tournament winners Albaugh. Defensive errors proving to be the teams downfall in all three losses. Offensively the Merchants proved very capable of scoring runs against a variety of high calibre pitching and now look to put both sides of the game together at the upcoming Graffmeier tournament. All schedule for team information for the Thomson Merchants can be found at www.thomsonfastpitch.com

The Merchants also played a double header vs Bi State Furniture for Dixon, Iowa in Quad City League Play on Tuesday night. Both games were won by mercy rule after 3 innings. Highlights included towering homeruns to Marquise Cody, Steve Manson and Casey Eden. There was also an impressive defensive display by former Minor league baseball star Cody in centre field,  in his first fastpitch games for the season.

The Merchants now look forward to assembling there full squad for the first time in 2007 vs the Farm on Friday night.
