London, ON -  It is a sad day for all fastball fans with the news that legendary pitcher Metro Szeryk passed away earlier this week,  in London, Ontario.

It is a sad day for all fastball fans with the news that legendary pitcher Metro Szeryk passed away earlier this week,  in London, Ontario.

Metro was a giant on the mound, his massive hand enveloped the ball, and from humble beginnings he pitched his way into the Windsor Fastpitch Hall of Fame, the Connecticut ASA Hall of Fame and the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame.

Met, as he was known to teammates and friends played for one of the games greatest teams in his prime, the Raybestos Cardinals. Raybestos was a great sponsor in that era, they built a legendary park for employees to play Softball and they fielded some the best men's and women's teams of the era, often playing to crowds of 10,000 people.

Metro earned great success in the USA but nearing the end of his career came home to throw for a strong St. Thomas,Ontario team.

Metro was a member of the London Sports Association and loved to talk the game of fastball with old teammates and friends.

Lucky are those who can say they got the chance to even stand in the batters box with Metro Szeryk facing them down.  Very few ever had the thrill of a hit off of him.

Rest in peace Met, you were a legend in the game and a humble family man and friend .

With deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived, the family of Metro Szeryk announces his peaceful passing on July 26, 2025. A devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a celebrated figure in the world of fast-pitch softball, Metro lived with integrity, a competitive spirit, and a gregarious nature that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Metro shared over 63 loving years with his wife Carol Jean Szeryk (née Pandke). Together, they raised sons Scott (Karen) and Neil (Karen), and later proudly watched their granddaughters Maddie (Nick) and Ellie (Martin) grow—moments that filled his heart with pride. He cherished his time on the pitching mound (inducted into the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame, Windsor Fastpitch Softball Hall of Fame and the Connecticut ASA Fast Pitch Hall of Fame), as well as his time playing cribbage with his brother in law Eric Pandke (Cindy).

A celebration of his life will be held on August 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George's Parish, 1164 Commissioners Rd. W., London. Reception to follow. Private family burial afterwards.

We would like to thank all of the 2nd floor staff at McCormick Home, who lovingly took care of him during the last year of his life. If you would like to donate in his name, please consider the McCormick Care Foundation. Online condolences maybe be shared by visiting www.westviewfuneralchapel.com
