Canada falls to Chinese Taipei 9-2 in their opening game at the U18 Women’s World Cup 

 

Oklahoma City, USA – The Quick Story: 
 

Team Canada opened their U18 Women’s World Cup journey with a hard-fought 9-2 contest against Chinese Taipei. Despite the result, Canada showed strong moments both at the plate and in the circle, giving fans a glimpse of the talent and resilience this young squad brings to international play. 

 

Key Moments 

Canada’s offence put pressure on early and often, collecting several extra-base hits. Avery Tucker and Isabella Gill each hit doubles, while Tucker tallied three total bases to spark the lineup. Avery Porter drove in a run with an RBI, while Cece Brown and Cali Chapman added to the hit column. Patience at the plate was also on display, with Abigail Findlay and Avery Hess each working walks, and Skylar Flanagan reaching after being hit by a pitch.  

In the circle, Canada showcased its pitching depth, using four arms to navigate the game. Rylee Ruppel, Findlay, Emma Frisky, and Katherine Thiessen combined efforts, finding their rhythm against a disciplined Taipei lineup.

The Outlook: 
 

While the scoreboard didn’t fall Canada’s way, the opener gave valuable international experience to a number of players and highlighted Canada’s ability to create scoring opportunities against one of the tournament’s skilled teams. With more games ahead, Canada will look to build on the positives and carry momentum into their next matchup. 
 

Team Canada returns to action September 28th, facing China at 12:00 pm EDT and USA at 7:30pm EDT.
