Thomson Merchants at Grafmeier

The Thomson Merchants completed another 1-3 weekend at the recently completed Grafmeier tournament in Kimberly, Wisconin. Against world class teams and pitchers the Merchants are becoming increasingly competitive and continue to build forward to Kitchener later in the year.
The Merchants opened up on Friday vs The Farm, almost completing a massive upset before eventually going down 4-3. After taking a 3-0 lead into the 4th innings, largely due to a 2nd inning 2 run Home Run to Bruce Bielema, some key defensive errors let down the team in the 4th. The Farm drew level and then managed to score the winning run in the 6th.
Because of rain on Saturday Thomson faced a long day at the ball park playing Mindak, Townline and The Bar on the Avenue. The 11am game vs Mindak was locked at 2 all in the 2nd innings, Thomson's runs again coming through a Bielema 2 run shot, when a long rain delay caused all play to be ceased for 2 hours. When the game resumed Mindak hitters took control and pulled away for a comfortable win. Townline was up next at approximately 10pm. Dispite a valiant pitching effort by Rory Miller a combination of fielding errors and power hitting from Townline, took the game away from Thomson. Depite being out of the running for the tournament Thomson then played local team, The Bar, in a game starting around 12.30 am Sunday morning. Surrounded in heavy fog the Merchants managed a 5-2 win, the highlights of this game being a strong pitching performance by Steven Manson and a 2 run Home run to catcher Casey Eden.
