Thomson Merchants in Eau Claire

The Thomson Merchants completed a 1-2 record at the recently completed Eau Claire Classic. A unusual twist in schduleing saw the Merchants twice lose to ISC #6 ranked Mindak Millers at what was a well run and enjoyable tournament. These two games against Mindak were the 3rd and 4th time Mindak and Thomson have faced up in the last 3 tournaments.
In the opening game on Friday Thomson went down 8-0 to the Millers. The strong Mindak hitting line-up again proving too much for the Merchant pitching. Highlights for Thomson included a 2 hit performance from catcher Casey Eden to pick up the only hits for Thomson.
In the losers bracket game on Saturday the Merchants showed the progress has been made over recent tough weekends to prevail against Kegal Black Knights 8-0 in 5 innings. Steve Manson was strong on the mound for Thomson before being replaced by pick-up player Gerard Long for the save in the 5th innings. Manson also contributed 2 hits for Thomson, alongside another 2 for 2 performance for Casey Eden, and 2 rbi games for Kevin Anderson and Rory Miller. Miller's 2 run Home run being the final act of the game.
Thomson then turned around to play Mindak again in a sudden death match. The Mindak hitters were again on fire, combined with the strong pitching of Ward Gosse, and Mindak ran out 9-0 winners in 5 innings. 2 home runs by Roman Foore were particulary impressive for Mindak. Q Cody and Kevin Anderson picked up hits for Thomson.
Thomson will next be in action at the Boys of Summer (Mindak will not be in our bracket) where out team will be joined for the rest of the season by Roberto Bahler.
