Greater Ottawa Fastball League regular season play wound up last week, and the eight-team eastern Ontario / western Quebec intermediate men's fastball league will move on to playoffs.  The GOFL has three teams which will be participating at the ISC Tournament of Champions in Kitchener / Cambridge: Ottawa Team Easton (#6), Quyon Flyers (T#30) and Carp I4C Victory (T#30).

A quick preview on the four first round best-of-three series in the GOFL.

A: 1st Carp I4C Victory (13-6-2) vs. 8th Ottawa Blitz (3-17-1)
In just their second year in the GOFL, I4C Victory claimed first place in the Greater Ottawa Fastball League. While their "expansion cousins" the Ottawa Blitz finished last in the league, they did win their first three games of the franchise history and were close in many other games. Carp won all three meetings this season between the two clubs.

B: 2nd Stittsville 56ers (12-6-3) vs. 7th Orleans Gators (6-13-2)
Stittsville, playoff finalists in 2006, started a bit slow in the 2007 campaign, but finished strongly and ended up just one point out of first. Orleans, an expansion team in the GOFL this season, had a very impressive start, but lost six in a row after losing their junior-aged star pitcher Chad Hargrove for the season. The teams tied in their first match up, but Stittsville was a big winner in their subsequent two games.

C: 3rd Ottawa Team Easton (12-7-2) vs. 6th Manotick Lomor Printers (8-9-4)
Defending GOFL Playoff champions, Team Easton will face their nemesis in the Manotick team in the first round. Easton will be a threat again for a "five-peat" this season with their all-star laden squad, but Manotick has always seemed to play well against Danny Konkle's team. Easton actually had a losing record against Manotick in 2007 as the Printers took 2 of 3 in the season series.

D: 4th Quyon Flyers (12-7-2) vs. 5th Fitzroy Harbour West Carleton Electric (9-10-2)
Most observers of the GOFL believe that Quyon has been the surprise of the 2007 campaign. With a very young squad new to the league, the GOFL's lone Quebec entrant tied defending champions Team Easton in the standings, settling for 4th due to the tie-breaker. WC Electric have had a season where they have blown a few games they should have won, leading to their first below .500 season since their initial year in the league in 2004. Some may call this the "Ferry Series" as the teams will be riding the boat across the Ottawa River to face one another. Quyon won the season series two games to one.
