Blue Devils & Midget selects split

The Port Elgin Blue Devils & Owen Sound Midget Selects split their doubleheader.
 
The Blue Devils won the opener 8-0 while the Selects won the nightcap 3-1.
 
In the opener, Greg Thede had a 2 run homer while Brian Maas  had a pair of doubles for Port Elgin.
Thede finished the game with 3 rbi.
 
Scott Christie pitched a complete game shutout, givin up just 1 hit.
 
Nolan Kreis started for the Midget Selects and did not get out of the third inning.
 
Frank Cox came on in relief for Owen Sound and was touched for the 8th run while striking out 5 in his appearance.
 
Because the Selects are without pitcher David Juniper due to injury, Cox and Jamie Simpson were brought in to pitch for the Midget Selects last night.
 
In the second game, a botched grounder off the bat of Tyler Baumber in the 5th inning allowed Owen Sound to score twice and break a 1-1 tie.
 
Port Elgin opened the scoring in the first when Maas walked and came home on Mike Reilly's triple.
Owen Sound tied it in the bottom of the third when right fielder Lucas Lind walked, was sacrificed to second and and scored on Matt Kuhl's rbi single.
 
The Midget Selects also turned two difficult double plays to aid winning pitcher Jamie Simpson who gave up 3 hits and struck out 5 over 7 innings.
 
Matt Hamilton took the loss for Port Elgin.
 
The Blue Devils begin play at the ISC II Championship in Kitchener on Tuesday night when they face the Hickson Reds
 
Four members of the Selects; Nolan Kreis, Brent Thompson, Jason Miller & David Juniper, will compete for various teams at the Canadian Midget Championships in Saskatoon next week.
 
Kreis & Thompson will play for the Chepstow Colts.
 
Juniper, who did not suit up last night, is scheduled to compete for the Linwood Chiefs.
 
And Miller is with the Ontario Champions from Napanee.
 
Meanwhile, Matt Kuhl of the Selects has been added to the roster of the Orillia Riversharks for the ISC Championship at Kitchener which begins tonight..
