READ, Gilbert Lee March 30, 1954 - August 26, 2007 READ Paralegal Services Peacefully in hospital surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, August 26th, 2007 at the age of 53. Loving son of Ronald (Phyllis) and the late Marjorie Hingley. Beloved spouse, partner and best friend of Georgia (nee Bannister). Loving father to Chris (Kristine) and Ron. Dear brother of David (Dorothy), Peter (Debbie) and Robert (Janice), not only his brother but his friend and business partner. He will be sadly missed by all his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and friends. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Kelly Funeral Home, 580 Eagleson Road, Kanata, Sunday, September 2, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Tuesday at Glen Cairn United Church (140 Abbeyhill Dr., Kanata) for Service at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow in the church hall. Gil Read began coaching T-ball, 5-pitch and softball in his local
community of Kanata decades ago and progressed to coaching softball at
the provincial, national and eventually the international level. He
won three gold medals as the coach of the Ontario Men's Softball Team
at the Canada Games. Gil has also been the team leader and manager for
a number of Canada's Junior and Senior National Women's Softball Teams
where he also compiled an impressive record, winning silver medals at
the 2001 Pan-American Games in Venezuela and the Junior Pan-Ams in
Mexico. At the 2003 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico, the
team won gold. He also coached the Canadian women's team at the 2003
Junior Women's World Championship in China and at the Olympics in Athens in 2004.
Gil continued to be heavily involved at the executive level with the
local, provincial and national softball associations. He currently
serves on Softball Canada's Initiation Committee and Coaching Development Committee.
He has been honoured by the City of Kanata and in 2002 he won the
Ontario Sport Award for Men's Team of the Year. Gil is currently the
head coach of the University of Ottawa Women's Softball Team.

Directions to the Church  (from Toronto) are as follows:
- Take 401 to the 416.
- Take the 416 to the westbound exit (left lane) of highway 417 in Ottawa
- Follow highway 417 and exit at the Eagleson/March Road exit. 
Turn left at the lights to enter Eagleson Road.
- Follow Eagleson Road for approx 1.3 miles,
immediately after you pass the Hazeldean Mall,
turn right onto Abbeyhill Dr and follow until you reach the
Glen Cairn United Church that will be on the left hand side.
