Fawcetts lose two on Day 4 of Sr. Nats
BY PAT HEALEY
ST. JOHN’S, NL - The Hunter’s Ale House Fawcetts find themselves in a must win situation heading into their final two round robin games Thursday here at the 2007 Labatt Canadian senior men’s fast pitch championships.
The Fawcetts dropped their record to 2-4 (won-loss) with a pair of losses, 10-2 in six innings to Saskatchewan 2, Aspen Interiors, while falling 4-3 to the defending champs, St. Thomas Centennials
With the losses, it means Charlottetown must win both games today (Thursday) just to have a shot to make it into the top 8 (they sit ninth now) and the playoffs. One of those games is against second place, B.C.’s Vancouver Grey Sox (12:30 pm AT). Their first game is at 8:30 a.m. AT
Only the top 8 make the playoffs starting Friday night. There are also tiebreakers if necessary.
Against St. Thomas, the Fawcetts rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. A run in the top of the seventh put the Cents ahead 4-3 and they held off the attempt to win it in the bottom half of the seventh by the Charlottetown-based squad.
Darren Box (2-3, run scored), Mark Johnston (1-3, RBI) and Mark Coleman (1-3, two runs scored) led the Defending champions attack
Glenn Ormsby drove home two runs in the loss, thanks to a two run home run.. Ormsby, Jeff Ellsworth and Kelly Wenstrom each had 1-for-3 summaries. Ellsworth also drove home a run.

The Cents used the full 14-man roster to pull out the win.
Against Aspen, Ryan O’Neil (3-3, run scored), winning pitcher Trevor Ethier (2-4, two runs scored, home run three RBI), and Darrell Joy (2-4, two runs scored, two-run home run) led the attack.
Alberton’s Jeff Ellsworth had the big bat for the Fawcetts getting two of their three hits they managed off Ethier. He batted 2-for-3 with a walk and scored Charlottetown’s only two runs of the contest. He is now hitting 8-for-18 in the tournament. Mark Arsenault (1-1, two RBI) had the other hit.
Aspen scored three times in the first, two times in each of the fourth and fifth and finished it off with a three run sixth.
