The Circle Tap Fastpitch team ventured to the West Coast for it's first
games of the season and came away with an extremely dissapointing 2-3
mark. There were positives to come out of the weekend however, most
importantly getting some games in and getting most of the guys together
for the first time. First off I want to thank Chris Miljavac, Marc
Benjamin, Tommy Gray, and Rob Scheller for filling in as we were missing a
few players due to coaching and work commitments, i.e. Kyle Magnusson,
Kevin Reichardt, Todd Malnory, and Jamie Knudson.
The weather in desert was a very nice 101 when we landed Thursday night,
can't ask for a whole lot better than that. Thanks to the SoCal Bombers
and the Trejo group for putting on a very nice event and giving us a
chance to see some teams that we don't normally see until the Worlds. The
results are as follows:

Game 1
#8Circle Tap 3 #13SoCal Bombers 4

CT 3 3 0
SB 4 6 0
The first action of the year for the Tappers was a very tight game
throughout with a very good Bombers team. CT grabbed an early 2-0
advantage as leadoff hitter Jess Ellestad walked Miljavac flew out
advancing the runner, Chris Delarwelle walked and with two out rookie to
the team Tom Crouch came up with a two run single. SoCal made it a 2-1
game in the bottom half on a Glenn Ormsby home run. The Bombers would
take a 3-2 lead in the 3rd on a two run blast by Albert Mendibles. CT
would even the score at 3 in the 5th as Miljavac walked and scored on a
Delarwelle base hit. The time limit expired after 6 complete and the game
knotted at 3. International tie breaker rule in place put Tommy Gray at
2nd for the tappers but he was stranded at 3rd on 3 straight strikeouts by
relief pitcher Tony Peeples. SoCal placed Dan Winnick at 2nd in the
bottom half and with two out Glenn Ormsby came up with the game winning
base hit to give the Bombers a 4-3 win.

Game 2
#8Circle Tap 6 Lumberkings(CA) 7 5innings

CT 6 8 0
LK 7 10 0
The Tappers came out swinging in the top half of the 2nd grabbing a 5-0
lead. Tom Crouch and Marc Benjamin had triples in the inning along with
base hits by Darren Derricks, Chris Miljavac, Chris Delarwelle, and Don
Garvey. The Lumberkings struck right back in the bottom half with 5 of
their own on a home run by Russ Gozzda, base hit by Jeff Twist, double by
Jeff Wilson and a base hit by Javier Mierro. CT took a 6-5 advantage in
the top of the 4th as Miljavac picked up a two out triple and scored on a
Delarwelle base hit. Time expired in the 5th so the Lumberkings had a
last crack at it going into the final half. CT replaced starter Matt
Bramwell with veteran Rob Scheller. Gozzda drew a walk, Twist struck out
Wilson walked and both runners advanced on a passed ball. Scheller struck
out the lead off man and then Javier Flores delivered a two out two run
base hit to end the game.

Game 3
#8Circle Tap 3 #22Team Rainey(Whittier,CA) 1

TR 1 2 0
CT 3 5 0
Circle Tap scored their first win of the season against a familiar foe in
Team Rainey. Rainey struck first in the top half of the first as Jesse
Duncan led off with a base hit advanced to 2nd on sacrifice and with two
out scored on a Chris Hunt base hit. CT aswered in the bottom half as
Ellestad walked Chris Delarwelle knocked him in with a double and then
scored on a Don Garvey base hit. It remained a 2-1 game until the bottom
of the 6th when Ellestad singled and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and
scored on a Chris Miljavac base hit.

Game 4 playoff
#8Circle Tap 5 Lumberkings 3 5innings

CT 5 6 1
LK 3 4 3
Circle Tap left 3 men on in the first two innings and finally cashed in,
in the 3rd as Jess Ellestad walked and scored on a Chris Miljavac double.
The Lumberkings would score 3 times in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead.
Jeff Twist led off with a home run, Dave Weldon walked and advanced to
2nd on a throwing error after the lead off hitter popped out. Following a
strike out Shawn Mandolesi walked, a wild pitch advaced both runners and
Sonny Perkins delivered a base hit scoring two. CT made it a 3-2 game in
the 4th as Matt Bramwell reached on an error and later scored on a Darren
Derricks base hit. The Tappers struck 3 times in the 5th as Delarwelle
drew a lead off walk, Don Garvey picked up a base hit and Tom Crouch
delivered a two run double, he scored on a Tommy Gray base hit. Time
limit was called so the Lumberkings had last wraps. Starting pitcher Rob
Scheller struck out the lead off man, the two hitter grounded out and the
third hitter picked up a base hit. Collin McKenzie was called on and he
got the 3rd out.

Game 5 Semi-final
#8Circle Tap 0 #18Pueblo(CO) Bandits 4

PB 4 7 1
CT 0 0 1
I have to think real hard to remember the last time a Circle Tap team was
shut out much less no-hit. Jeremy Manley threw a great game and Pueblo's
middle infield made some ridiculous defensive plays to take away a couple
of base hits. Lauro Felix hit a HR in the 3rd to give Pueblo all they
would need to win. They tacked on single runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th.
WP:Jeremy Manley
LP:Collin McKenzie, Matt Bramwell(7th)

The Tappers hope to rebound in the Wisconsin Travel League this weekend in
the friendly confines of the Circle Tap diamond in Denmark, WI. CT plays
The Bar of Appleton at 8PM Friday. PMF/The Bar at 5PM Saturday, Townline
at 7PM Saturday and the CT Lumberjacks at 3PM Sunday.
