Pickering Men's Fastball

September 24, 2007

Pickering, ON

For the second consecutive year the Pickering Sting have have been crowned both league and playoff champions in the 9 team Pickering Mens Fastball League.  In the best of three semi-finals the Sting were pushed to the limit by the Knights Corner team who were having a Cinderella type playoff run.  The two of three finals this year saw the Sting take on DD4U, who had finished only 1 point behind the Sting during regular season play.  After dropping the first game 6-3 the Sting put their fortunes in the hands of wile pitching veterans Gary Latchford and Harold Passmore and came back to win the final 2 games of the series by scores of 3-0 and then a 3-2 nail biter on Friday night.  The game featured a game saving catch by right fielder Bass and then Gary Latchford secured the title by striking out the final batter with two runners on. Congratulations to Harold Passmore, Wally Kozak, Bass, Bob Haddow, Glen Sellars, Greg Lumley, Gary Latchford, Steve Mo, Mark Thompson, Mike Read, Paul "BJ" Foucault, Matt Smith, Mike Racioppo, and Mike O'Hearn for another fine season.
Congrats as well to Jay Davis and the rest of the Pickering Mens Fastball League executive for putting on another great year of trouble free fastball. and to Umpire-In-Chief Brian Sharples for ensuring that at least 50% of the calls were right.
