RVC/Happy Joes Challenge

In the spirit of true development, with no ISC/NAFA/ASA developmental money, the Rock Valley College baseball team embarked on historic day in men's fastpitch. As part of the squad's team building activities, the college's head baseball coach (Ron Clark) challenged the college's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics (Tim Hatten) to a fastpitch softball game. The team was split into two squads and played a nine inning wood bat challenge, with Hatten coaching one team and Clark coaching the other. The game was played with wood bats and Debeer Extreme cork centered balls. Twenty one year old Ryan McDuffa (RVC C Clubberz) toed the hill for both teams, to be relieved by Ray Reynolds of Blackhawk A.C in the 9th inning.
Hatten's gold squad jumped on top with a base hit, delayed still and throwing error by the catcher. Clark's blue squad answered back with a solo HR by Eric Nicholson, in the top of the 2nd. The game was nip and tuck with, the Blue squad leading 3-2 going into the 8th. The blue squad broke open the game with 3 runs in the 8th to take home the victory. Hatten's gold team had to escort the winning team to Happy Joe's pizzeria to serve the winning team their prize of happy joe's pizza. The game introduced 20 new players to the great game of fastpitch softball, with the goal of generating new players for the Rock Valley College Club Fastpitch softball team. The plan is to have this annual event to conclude the fall baseball season, at RVC, to educate college baseball players on the benefits of playing fastpitch softball in relationship to skill building in baseball.
