Jarvis Merchants Announce 2008 Roster

The Jarvis Merchants are pleased to announce their rosterfor the 2008 season.
Paul Koert (P) – 2 time all-world selection has playedthe past two years with the Kitchener Hallman Twins and is one of the top lefthanded pitchers in the game.
Andrew Phibbs (P) – returns to the Merchants lookingto bounce back from two injury filled seasons and has been given the greenlight to resume throwing.
Allan Phibbs (C/DP) – returns to the Merchants for his4th season and is coming off a strong finish to the 2007 season. Phibbs finished tied for 2nd in HR’s and 3rd in RBI’sin ’07.
Chris Shewfelt (C) – a former all-world selection joinsthe Merchants after two successful seasons with the Kitchener Hallman Twins.
Greg Courneyea (C/1B) – a spark plug in the Merchantsline-up, returns for his 4th season and will see time at a number ofpositions for the Merchants in 2008.
Chad Staats (2B) – returns for his 3rd full season with the Merchants and will take over the duties at 2B from the retiredAdam Smith. Staats had a great ’07 season and was the Merchants tophitter at the WT in Kitchener.
Steve Running (MI) – joins the Merchants after astrong 2007 campaign with the Innerkip Eagles. Running can play both middle infield positions as well as in the OF.
Ryan Thompson (SS) – 2 time national champion andall-world selection, returns for his 3rd full season and will seetime at both SS and 3B.
Matt Lyon (3B) – returns for his 4th seasonas one of the top defensive 3B in Ontario
Pat Graham (1B) – returns for his 2nd fullseason. Led the Merchants in five offensive categories in 2007 (AB, hits,RBI, doubles, Ave.)
Bill Simmons (OF) – returns for his 2nd fullseason with the Merchants. He bounced back after a slow start to lead theMerchants in runs scored and stolen bases.
John Brunton (OF) – returns for his 2nd fullseason with the Merchants. After taking a year off, he finished 3rdon the team in batting average at .345.
Rino Dambrosio (OF) – returns for his 2nd seasonwith the Merchants. Rino led the Merchants in OF assists and brings apower threat and speed to the line-up.
The Merchants will also add Ian Fehrman and Jeff Ellsworth to their roster for the nationals which will be held in Saskatoon. The Merchants will belooking to add one additional pitcher to their roster for the nationals.
The Merchants are looking at rescheduling their annualfastball challenge and will be announcing details in the coming weeks alongwith their tentative 2008 schedule.
