Greater Ottawa Fastball League adds ninth team

The Greater Ottawa Fastball League held its "annual winter meetings" last week and accepted a ninth team to play in the the eastern Ontario based intermediate (ISC II) fastball league for the 2008 season.

The eight teams from the 2007 season have all indicated they will be returning, with a new team being added in the south Ottawa village of Greely.

Teams for 2008
1) Ottawa, ON Team Easton - 5 time returning champions (attended ToC in 2007, berth for ToC 2008)
2) Stittsville, ON 56ers
3) Fitzroy Harbour, ON West Carleton Electric (last year's finalist)
4) Manotick, ON Lomor Printers
5) Carp, ON I4C Victory (attended ToC in 2007)
6) Ottawa, ON Blitz
7) Quyon, QC Flyers (attended ToC in 2007)
8) Orleans, ON Gators
9) Greely, ON - NEW - (composed of several players from Blackburn Bombers who attened the TOC in 2007)

The 12 weeks of regular season play will start the week of May 5 and end the week of July 21. Playoffs will follow, with all nine teams playing down for the "I4C Trophy". 
Teams will play an unbalanced schedule of 20 games, which will include 2 games at a League "Showcase Weekend". Greely has offered to host the Showcase Weekend at the Metcalfe, ON diamonds in south Ottawa, tentatively scheduled for June 1.

The GOFL also decided on entering the ISC II Home League Program and will send a team or teams to Eastern Ontario Challenge Cup in September 2008 in Fitzroy Harbour.
