Owen Sound, ON

The city of Owen Sound and the Junior Men's Fastball team have been awarded the hosting rights for the 2008 Canadian Junior Men's Championship tournament.

The Owen Sound hosting committee was informed Monday they had gained the right to host the week long championship tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to be staged from August 3rd to the 10th at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound.

This is the second major event of the year to be hosted in the city.

In March, Owen Sound will be hosting a series of sports connected to the 2008 Ontario Winter Games.

In terms of fastball, this is third major event for the city this decade.

Owen Sound hosted the Canadian Women's Championship in 2001.

The 2003 National senior Men's Championship was at Duncan McLellan Park in 2003.

The 2008 Canadian Junior Men's tournament will feature at least a dozen teams according to Owen Sound General Manager Bill Simpson.
Simpson says the organizing committee is in place with Maxine Parker & Doug Crawford acting as co-chairs.
Owen Sound will have a first year entry in Junior fastball this season.
However, Simpson says even though Owen Sound will be entered in the championship as a host team, he doesn't anticipate that will make the recruiting process easier for his club.
