   SOFTBALL ONTARIOANNOUNCES SOFTBALL CANADA LEVEL IV UMPIRECLINIC 

NORTH YORK,ONTARIO – Softball Ontario’s Umpire Program is happy to announce theyare hosting a Softball Canada Level IV Umpire Clinic in St. Thomas, Ontario onApril 26-27, 2008. Please note this clinic is being held at Elgin Labour Hall,18 Princess Avenue, St. Thomas, ON N5R 3V2 and is the same location asthe Softball Canada Instructor/Evaluator Umpire Clinic. 

Thistwo-day course is essential for any Ontario Umpire aspiring to attend aSoftball Canada Championship tournament (not including Pee Wee and BantamGirls).  An action packed course, the Level IV clinic covers many topicsincluding the Spirit of Umpiring, Mental Preparation and PreventativeOfficiating.  Softball Canada top notch Umpire Instructors for thisclinic include: Brian Sharples, Softball Canada Official Development Committeefrom Pickering, ON: Jeff Whipple Softball Canada Fast Pitch Level 5 Officialfrom Fredericton, NB and Ray Day, Softball Canada Slo-Pitch Level 5 Officialfrom Mississauga, ON.

In order tobe eligible to attend the Level IV Umpire Clinic, you must be a fullycertified Level III Official with a minimum of two (2) yearsexperience.

SoftballOntario must recruit a minimum of fifteen (15) participants by April 10, 2008in order to host the 2008 Softball Canada Level IV Umpire clinic, so applytoday!  If the minimum number of participants is not reached by April 10,the clinic will be cancelled.  Softball Ontario will continue to acceptapplications after the deadline providing the minimum of fifteen (15)participants have registered.

Cost:               Member Fee:  $225.00 plus GST per participant
                       Non Member Fee: $275.00 plus GST per participant

Note: Member means individual is a registered umpire with Softball Ontario in thecurrent year or in the previous year.
SoftballOntario Mandatory Certification Policy- Effective 2002- all umpires SoftballOntario must attend a recognized Umpires clinic every two year. Recognized Umpire Clinics include:
Attended SoftballOntario Umpire Refresher Clinic
Attended Softball OntarioInstructor/Evaluator Training Weekend
Attended the next highest UmpireLevel Clinic in sequence to what the Umpire has already taken
Attended aSoftball Canada Blue Convention
Attended a Softball Canada MechanicsSchool
Re-Take the highest level clinic that you have (a SoftballOntario Level 4 Umpire may take a Softball Ontario Level 3 Umpire Clinic)

SoftballOntario has reserved accommodations for clinic participants at Ramada St.Thomas, 292 Wellington Street, Hwy 3 Exit 1st Ave, St Thomas, ON N5R 2S9
with a room rate of $89.00 plus applicable taxes.  It is theresponsibility of participants who require accommodation to book their ownaccommodations.  Please note when making reservation, please quote 490SOFT.

Thistwelve (12) hours Softball Canada clinic focuses on how to be an effectiveSoftball Canada Umpire Clinic Instructor and how to become a knowledgeableSoftball Canada Umpire Evaluator.  This exciting educational opportunitywill offer the following objectives: improve your quality of Umpire clinicinstruction; develop your Evaluation techniques of On Field Evaluations andprovide a national network of Softball Canada’s Instructor/Evaluators.Softball Canada top notch Umpire Instructors for the Instructor/EvaluatorClinic include Brian Van Os, Softball Canada's Officials DevelopmentCommittee, Coquitlan, BCand Murray Harvey, Softball Canada's Officials Development Committee, St.Thomas,ON.

In order tobe eligible to attend the Softball Canada Instructor/Evaluator clinic hostedby Softball Ontario, you must be a fully certified Level 3 Softball OntarioOfficial.  Softball Ontario Level II   Umpires may be givenconsideration upon approval from the appropriate Provincial Umpire-in-Chief,Jack Van Bynen for Slo-Pitch Umpires and Peter Kluszczynski for Fast PitchUmpires.  Please note approval is also required from Softball CanadaNational Director of Umpires, Bob Stanton.

SoftballOntario must recruit a minimum of twenty (20) participants by April 10, 2008in order to host the 2007 clinic, so apply today!  If the minimum numberof participants is not reached by April 10, the clinic will becancelled.  Softball Ontario will continue to accept applications afterthe deadline providing the minimum of twenty (20) participants haveregistered.
