Melissa Brideau Fastball Fundraiser Wrap Up

June 11, 2008

St Catharines, ON

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

June 10, 2008

Just wanted to give everyone an idea of how we made out on Thursday night.

Attendance was somewhere between 350-400 people at the ballpark. It was
nice to see Lancaster Park with that many people in the stands. A lot of
old time fastball fans, and many new ones were out at the park for the first
time in years, it was encouraging to see so many fans there, and hopefully
it will spark a renewed interest in the game in the Niagara Region. The
atmosphere really was electric and it made the game really exciting and
enjoyable to watch as the players on the field picked up on that electricity
and fed off it.

We raised over $2200 for Melissa on Thursday night which is unbelievable.
All the teams in the GHFL stepped up to contribute, it was tremendous to see
the support we received. Being at the table where we were selling tickets
to both the raffle prizes and the 50/50, we had people that would park their
cars and run into the park and hand us money. When we asked them if they
would like raffle or 50/50 they informed us that they couldn't stay but they
had heard about the fundraiser and just wanted to help out. What a great
show of community support. Tommy and Melissa will be presented with a
cheque prior to the June 19th game versus the Snappers at Lancaster park at
9pm.

The Ball Park Radio broadcast that came together at the 11th hour was also a
success. Over 450 people tuned in to the games from California to Ontario
and even a few overseas listeners. To be able to bring that broadcast to
such a wide geographic area is staggering and we certainly accomplished our
goal of letting the people that could not make it down to the park at the
very least, be able to listen to the games. I know that Kyle, Matt and
Blair not only commented on the games themselves but also took time to give
the listeners some background on Melissa and her story.

I wanted to take this time to thank some people that really had a large part
in making this event such a success:
Blair Setford was obviously one of the driving forces behind the night and
it couldn't have happened without his involvement. Allot of people don't
realize how many things had to fall into place perfectly in order to make
this night a success and Blair was the one that was making it happen.

Jason Paylove, Perry Bartley and Bill Weaver of the Niagara Snappers who
worked alongside myself, Blair Setford and Dave Weldin of the California
Lumberkings to help make this night happen. Whether it was helping secure
prizes, taking care of umpires, or simply offering their opinion on what
would work best, all 3 of these gentlemen were an integral part of the
process.

Kyle Smith and Matt Bedrosian for the great work on the Ball Park Radio
broadcast. Everyone knows Kyle does a fantastic job calling the games, and
received rave reviews last year as a late replacement for and ISC WT game in
Kitchener. Matt took his turn behind the mike for the first time, and
brought a great insight into the game. Matt was a high level umpire for
10+ years and has been a part of the Niagara Snappers team since inception
so his commentary and insight reflects both aspects of that.
Congratulations and thank you to both.

James Atkinson and Scott Young. Scott donated his sound system and came to
the ball park a couple of times to set up his equipment and test it. James
worked the microphone the night of the game for 3 straight hours and was
warmly received by the crowd and the players alike.

Phil John and Tom Berube for your help with the technical aspects of the
Ball Park Radio broadcast. The broadcast would not have happened without
these 2 gentlemen. Both of you went above and beyond what was expected.

Ted Neal for your help at the prize table. Ted manned the front table
selling tickets and handing out programs for the entire night. Ted is a
sponsor of the Niagara Snappers has strong community ties throughout the
Niagara Region. Thanks for all your help that night and throughout the
Snapper Shootout weekend.

The Niagara Falls Umpire Association who had 6 umpires donate their time to
do the 2 games and also put in a monetary donation on behalf of the
association to Melissa. Thank you so much for your support.

Herb Beckman and Storm's Deli who provided food and refreshments for the
event. Storm's had to overcome some hurdles that the parks and recreation
office put forth and took it upon themselves to take care of everything so
they could be a part of the event.

Everyone who donated prizes to the event. Jim Wilson, Melissa Paylove, Pat
McCloy, North York Knights of the GHFL, Blair Setford on behalf of the GHFL,
Corbett's Source for Sports, Mark Korten on behalf of Ridley College, Herb
Beckman of the Niagara Falls Fury, Ted Neal of Niagara Fasteners, Jason
Paylove, Duff's Pizzeria, the Niagara Snappers and the California
Lumberkings.

California Lumberkings, GHFL All Stars and the Niagara Snappers. Obviously
this night could not have happened without all 3 teams involved. They all
played hard, and played to win that night. They put on a great show for the
crowd.

I apologize for the long post, but there were many people involved in
putting this together and I felt that it was appropriate that they be
recognized for their efforts. I apologize to anyone I may have missed in
this novel of a post.

AND, its still not too late to help out.

Throughout all of our fundraising effort we have just asked people to make
their generous donations out to Melissa Brideau and mail to...
