STEELERS AND CARDINALS SWEEP THE QUARTERS
Its on with the second round semi finals starting next Thursday August the 7th at Lorne Brady Park in Garson , following both of last night's games played in Garson .
In the opener for the second strait night , the Steelers from Whitefish Lake First Nation , shut out the Athletics 7-0 and wont the best of three 2-0.
In the nightcap the Cardinals came out much stronger after getting a scare in the opener winning 4-3 and not 3-2 having to come from behind late in the bottom of the seventh.This time their strong bats and defense help them trounce the Native Sons from Magnatewan 11-2 .The Pickerel Cardinals also take their best of three quarter final 2-0.
This coming Thursday August the 7th , the second round semi finals best of five affairs get underway. In series "A" it will be the Whitefish Lake First Nation Steelers (4th place finishers during the regular season) taking on the first place Commissioner's Cup winners the Dog House North Stars .It is important to mention that the young guns from the Steelers defeated the first place North Stars twice during the regular season and tied them in the other contest.This could prove to be a very interesting series .If their veteran pitcher Al Guenette(the league's top pitcher for 2008 5-1-0;4,57 ERA) comes through we could see a full five game series .The strong bats and defense from the defending champions might prove to difficult for Whitefish
In series "B" also a best of five series two old rivals from the past will do battle .The season series between both was close . Both teams have two pitchers and strong bats down their lineup. Corey Farmer , this year's batting crown champion from the Hounds could be the key element in the series as well as clutch hitter and catcher Todd Parsons(winner of the most runs batted in during the regular season).
