Brantford, ON

The Saskatoon Aspen Selects advanced to the semi-final of the Midget Boy’s Canadian Softball Championship in Brantford, with a 2-1 victory over the Defending Champions Sooke Smoke. Travis Dauvin and Devon McCullough were locked in a pitching battle with last year’s playoff MVP Scot Lieph. They kept Sooke to four hits. In the bottom of the sixth Devon McCullough drove in Cole Reid from first with two out to bring home the eventual winning run. The Selects will play the winner of the other quarterfinal between Napanee and Newfoundland at 5:30 tomorrow. Following the game, the Qualifying Round Awards were presented and three Selects won awards; Monty Scherr was named All Star second baseman, Travis Dauvin was named All Star Utility Player and Devon McCullough was named outstanding pitcher.
