The SpinMaster Pitchers and Catchers School (fastball instruction) opens up for its 6th year of operation on Monday October 27, 2008. SpinMaster is open to all female and male pitchers and catchers who have a burning desire to learn and further refine themselves at these specialty defensive positions.
Under the guidance of Head Instructor Mal Swift and his sons, Jason, Matthew, Ryan and a host of assisting instructors (Pat Humphries, Danielle Smith and Brian Mather plus others) these students of the game will further their skills to make them future stars in fastball and keep the game alive and growing.
Pitchers will be instructed on proper mechanics, legal pitching, ball grips and the defensive positioning without the ball. Pitchers will be tested on accuracy and speed throughout the school year.
Pitchers must provide their own catchers. Only catchers taking instruction will pay the catcher fee.
Catchers will learn positioning, catching mechanics and other catching techniques with many drills implemented to improve their skills from Head Catching Instructor Matt Swift.
Instructor to student ratio will be: 1 to 3 for pitchers and 1 to 2 for catchers.
The school will be at Durham College’s new Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre - Gym # 3 (in the northwest corner of the campus) on Monday nights for 1 hour sessions per age group, either 7 to 8 pm or 8 - 9 pm. Parking is available just north of the gym and a short walk south will get you to the gym or in the south parking lot on the south side of the gym.
Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. There will be limited spots open for registrants as presently we have only a single gym available to us, as gym # 4 has already been booked. The cost of the 19 nights is $300.00/player.
Payment prior to the first class will guarantee your registration or on the first night October 27,2007, if there is room. These fees also cover insurance.
There is a family rate available for two or more students.
