THE SMOKERS CAPTURE NORTH SHORE CHAMPIONSHIP
The third and deciding game in this best of five series between the Elliot Lake Panthers and the Spanish Smokers wasn't decided until the final frame. Both teams exchanged runs throughout with the Panthers jumping out to a 5-3 lead after three innings of play.Spanish tied it up with a triple from Max Fauteaux in the 5th.The Panthers once again took the lead in the 7th off a in the park home run from Brad Matheson . In the bottom of the seventh Terry Jacques tied up the game once more for Spanish with an RBI single. The game was headed into extra innings until Ron Stolar hit a walkoff RBI base hit that drove in Rick Smith Jr to push the score to 8-7 . Congratulations to the Spanish Smokers the 2008 North Shore Fastball League Champions. In a few days from now in Elliot Lake stars from these two teams as well as seven other teams will take on the all-stars from the Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League .The game is set for 5 PM on September the 13th.
Thursday night in Garson at the Lorne Brady Park 8 PM Dog House North Stars and the Garson Hounds square off in the 3rd game of that league's best of 5 championship. The series is presently tied at 1-1.
