2008 MSFL Championship Finals

September 8, 2008

Mississauga, ON

The 2008 Mississauga Sportsmen's Fastball League Championship Finals have been set and for the third straight year, it will be the Etobicoke Royals and the Mississauga Sox battling it out for the right to be called MSFL Champions.

The Royals (20-1-1 Reg. Season) and Sox (17-4-1 Reg. Season) have been the finalists for the last several years, and have also traded the regular season champions crown during that time as well.  In 2005, the Sox won the title; in 2006 the Royals were the champs, and last year the Sox reclaimed their title.  Both teams match up very well against each other and both are very competitive - which makes for great ballgames to watch!  (See below for schedule).

Both teams feature potent offensive attacks and steady, quality pitchers.  The Royals have a very quick and scrappy front lineup headed by Dom Demasi at leadoff and 2-time MSFL Homerun Champion Jason Young and rightfielder Matt Smith in the middle to cash in on the RBI's.  Young also anchors a tough defense at shortstop, while Demasi captains a very good outfield in centre.  Look for Demasi and Young to set the tone for the Royals.  Marv Smith is the Royals' ace, whom has plenty of experience to go along with consistent pitching and could be tough to beat.

The Sox, on the other side, are one of the few teams in the MSFL that have beaten the Royals.  The Sox are loaded with experienced players from top to bottom.  Leadoff hitter and shortstop Ken Hendry hits for both power and average and gets the ball rolling for the Sox; sluggers Glen Dorrington, Jason Dorrington, and Fred Klyke must produce if the Sox are to be successful.  Glen Dorrington is also the Sox's ace and he'll have to set the tone early and hold the Royals down if his squad is to be victorious.

Additionally, the MSFL is participating in the Ontario Home League Affiliation Program this year which means that the Etobicoke Royals will be this years MSFL representative at the O.C.C. (held in Innerkip and Hickson this year).  Congratulations to the Royals and good luck in Innerkip!

Hope to see you all at the diamonds.  This will be an emotional, intense and exciting series to watch!
Thanks
