OCDFL Quarters deciding game and playoff update

September 16, 2008

Oshawa, ON

In Markham last night the Aurora Shoeless Joe's team, behind the strong pitching of Todd Martin, defeated the Markham Majors 5 - 0. Jeff Wilson suffered the loss as the Joe's scored early with three in the bottom of the first. It was Aurora's home game in this third and deciding game in the Oshawa City and District Fastball League quarter finals. The Majors were able to manufacture some chances but Martin shut that down when he bore down. Game time was 1 hour and 35 minutes.

In the first game the 7th place Majors upset 2nd place Aurora 5 - 1 behind Jeff Wilson's strong pitching. In game two Aurora squeaked out a 2 - 1 win in Aurora, in a great pitchers due. It was the Major's home game since game two in Markham was rained out last Monday to even the series at one game apiece.

The semi-finals starts this week as the first place Oshawa Ravens, who got a first round bye, with Paul Koert on the mound, will meet the Lake Simcoe Lightning behind the strong arm of pitcher Greg Garrity. The Lightning bounced the Toronto Celtics in two straight games in their quarter final match up. The Lightning finished in 5th place in OCDFL  league play.

The other semi-final in best two out of three series will feature Aurora Shoeless Joe's against the third place finishers the Stouffville Mennos with Greg Dalgarno, Jay Nesbitt and Byron Baranieski toeing the rubber.

These series will start as soon as possible and times and locations are yet to be determined.
