On a beautiful evening for fastball, the MinesingMonarchs defeated the Vasey Countrymen 9-7 in an 11 inning battle and take a2-1 series lead.

Vasey would then score in the bottom of the fifth totie the game at 5-5.  Jamie Robinson singled up the middle to drive inSteve Eakley who had previous reached base via a single.

Each team would be held off of the scoreboard untilthe 9th inning.  Minesing, with two out, produced a run via aMatt McLaren double, followed by a John Adams infield hit that the Vaseyshortstop threw over the first baseman’s head allowing McLaren to score.

The bottom half of the inning is when the game becamea little interesting!  Leadoff batter Steve Eakley drove a Glover offeringdeep to centerfield on a rope, only to have centerfielder Jamie Grant make aspectacular over-the-shoulder catch on a dead run at the fence.  In theprocess of making the catch, Grant ran into the fence and flipped over, resulting in the umpire making a homerun call.  To the disgust of theentire Minesing team and coach Steve Courtemanche, the umpire stated that theplayer did not have control of the ball and ruled the hit a homerun.  Courtemanchethe proceeded to set a new record for dirt kicked on an umpire and distance onecan throw a hat.  To say the least, it was an intense moment on the balldiamond as a spectacular catch turned into a game tying homerun!

In the top of the 11th inning, Minesingfinally got to Vasey pitcher Brad Robinsonas they plated 3 runs on 5 singles by Rob Mclean, Paul Priest, John Adams, GregMclean and Sylvain Cloutier.
