Fastball enthusiasts will be interested in catching an early season
look at a number of top quality intermediate men's fastball teams this
weekend at the 16th annual Mitchell Mets invitational tournament in
Mitchell, ON
Action begins tonight (Friday, June 9) with three games at 6:30 p.m.,
continues tonight until the last scheduled start at 9:30 p.m., begins
in earnest Saturday, June 10 at 9:30 a.m. and runs all day with
preliminary games.
Playoff action takes place Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m., and is capped
with the 'A' championship on the men's side of the tournament Sunday at
4 p.m.
All told, 15 teams will compete in the men's side of the tournament,
including the host Mets, defending-ISC II champion Elmira Cubs, ISC II
hosts Bridgeport Braves, and other strong teams representing Elora,
Port Elgin, Ingersoll, Glencoe, Milverton, Harriston, Zurich, Owen
Sound, Elmira Jrs., Tavistock, Monkton and Fullarton.
The Mitchell Jr. ladies are one of eight teams on the ladies draw.
Stratford, Milverton, St. Marys Jrs., Chepstow, Brampton, London and
Port Elgin are also set to compete for this championship.
Mitchell's Keterson Park (arena facility) is located on Wellington
Street. Mitchell is located 10-minutes west of Stratford on Highway 8,
only 45-minutes north of London on Highway 23 - the hub of fastball
activity in southwestern Ontario!
