Sidney White update

January 7, 2009

Eugene, OR

Many of you have been inquiring as to how Sidney is doing and we want to thank you allfor your thoughts, prayers and acts of kindness. It is truly our friends, family and God’s blessings that have carried us this far. The good news is just before Christmas Sidney started showing sign of improving on the medication and continues to improve slowly but surely. This is good news as the Doctor’s were not very confident that the medication would have an affecton Sidney considering the organic (the lesion) cause.  We are still gradually increasing the dosage of her medications and praying for further improvements as we do so.

We are currently investigating the best intensive treatment center for Sidney to attend. At this point we are looking at UCLA and University of Florida  We are working with these universities to make sure it is the right fit for Sidney as her Case and symptoms are not textbook which can make it more difficult to treat. It is important that we get her to a program as soon as possible, especially in regards to her inability to talk. Where hoping to get her scheduled sometime in February.

Last week we traveled to Doernbecher Hospital in Portland to see the Pediatric Neuro Oncologist. The Physician had shared Sidney’s MRI with many other physicians including Neurologist, Radiologist, Neurosurgeons, and Radiology Oncologist. They also presented her case and MRI at “TumorRounds” which means we were able to get several opinions on her scan. Atthis point the lesion is a “Mystery” and will need to be monitored frequently to make sure it is not the early stages of a tumor.  Sidney will have another MRI in February and return to Portland to see the Pediatric Neuro Oncologist as well as Pediatric Neurologist. If the scan isunchanged then they will rescan in 6 months.

The past 3 months have been very difficult and trying forour family. We have all dealt with Sidney’sillness in a different way (I’m without a doubt the weakest link)JIt is through these times that we have all learned to truly count our blessings (Every day-All day), even when the bad stuff seams totally overwhelming. We learned the more we can praise God for the good things in our lives, the more he will shower us with blessings. Sidney’s improvements are a true testament to this and we firmly believe that God will eventually heal Sidney  We have also come to realize what an amazing group of support people we have inour lives and how important that has been in getting us through the days, one day at a time. We ask that you continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we continue on this journey. \
