Legends of Fastball Classic 2009
 
The Kitchener Rivershark Twins, Kitchener Fastball Promotions and the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada are pleased topresent the 6th annual LEGENDS OF FASTBALL CLASSIC, June 5- 7 at Peter Hallman Ballyard, Kitchener.  This event traditionally kicks off the major men’s fastball season in Ontario and will mark the 42 straight year that a big time men’s fastball tournament is staged in Kitchener – Waterloo.
 
The 2009 edition of Legends will be the communities first opportunity to see the 2008 ISC World Champion Rivershark Twins in action .Tournament officials are also very pleased to have a true international event this year. Joining the lineup of participants will be the Argentina National Team, from the USA the Ashland Mets, and from Ontario the First Ontario Jarvis Gamblers, the St. Thomas Centennials, the Owen Sound Selects , The Owen Sound Volkswagen Juniors and the Dundas CPI / ADS Classics.
 
The tournament format will be an 8 team, 2 division round robin with all teams advancing to the playoff round. Each team will play 3games in the preliminary round with an immediate cross-over in the playoff round. The top two teams in each division will have a chance at two lives while the bottom two go immediately to a single knock out. The playoffs are basically following the page system used in curling to create two immediate high profile game .
 
The tournament will begin on Friday evening June 5 with 4games scheduled beginning at 7:00 and 9:00 pm . The games will get going again at 8:30 on Saturday morning and continue all day with playoff games beginning at 5:30and 6:00 p.m. respectively. Championship Sunday will get going at 9:00 a.m. withthe championship scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
 
As has been the custom since the beginning of this event in Woodstock in 2004, aceremony to honour past Legends of the game will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Past honourees have included legendary pitchers such as Dick Hames, Pete Landers, Darren Zack, Karen Snelgrove and Steve Virag, while positional stars such as Brian Paton, Ray Tilley, Dan Donahue, Barry Musselmanand Brian Stere have also been recognized. This years honourees will be announced shortly.
 
The cost of the weekend is a very reasonable $20 for an all tournament pass. Price for the 4 games Friday night is only $5.00 and it willbe $ 10 all day Saturday or Sunday. There will be the usual great ball park food and a refreshment area available all day and evenings.
 
This tournament is a sanctioned ISC Qualifying event for the2009 World Tournament scheduled for the Quad Cities, in August. While the R-Twins have already earned their trip to “the show” there will be a trip on the line for the top Ontario team in this event.
