The Owen Sound Brick Brothers Volkswagen Midget Selects Fastball team has some problems.
But according to Manager Lee Jacques, they're good problems.
The Midget Selects finished third at the O.A.S.A. Elimination tournament at Waterloo on the weekend, a finish that garnered them a spot in the Canadian Midget Championships at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in August.
The Canadian Midget Championship tournament is set for August 2nd to the 9th in Prince Albert, which is the exact same date as the Canadian Junior Men's Fastball Championship which the Brick Brothers Volkswagen Junior Selects are hosting at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound.
The problem ?
Manager Jacques, several executive members, and a number of the players are connected to both the Midget & Junior Selects entries.
Who goes where during the week of August 2nd to the 9th remains to be determined.
Jacques confirms the greater issue is a financial one.
He estimates by qualifying for the Canadian Midget Championships at Prince Albert, it will cost the Selects organization close to $ 20,000.
When budgeting for the 2009 fastball season, a season which features Owen Sound Selects teams in Senior Men's, Junior Men's and in the Midget Division, the organization did not forecast the Midgets advancing to the Nationals, and thus it has created a financial dilemma.
Jacques stresses Owen Sound will find a way to compete at the Midget Nationals and make sure the players experience everything a National Championship has to offer.
The funding issue will be discussed at length during meetings in Owen Sound this week.
