New Zealand To Invade Tavistock

July 7, 2009

Tavistock, ON

For Immediate Release:

First and foremost, I would like to say congratulations to the HUGE crew of Monkton volunteers for another job extrememly well done. Keep it going, as we need this tournament in Senior Mens Fastball. I also had the pleasure of attending a very well run event in Jarvis the previous weekend. Congratulations to the Jarvis crew as well.

In keeping with the fast moving summmer fastball "train", Tavistock Minor Ball in conjunction with the Kitchener Fastball Promotions Committee would like to remind everyone of our Senior Fastball event this weekend in our wonderful little village. In 2007, Tavistock played host to the New Zealand Black Sox in a VERY well attended doubleheader. Last Summer, Tavistock again played host to an International fastball event as the Argentinian National Team was in for a doubleheader. This weekend we will attempt to take the process one step farther with a two day, four team event at our recently renovated QUEENS PARK facility. The three time defending ISF World Champion New Zealand Black Sox will be on hand for this round robin shoot out.

The Black Sox are always a great draw, as they conclude their tour through Ontario in prepararation for Saskatoon. We also have the pleasure of hosting the Jarvis First Ontario Gamblers (Currently the 5th ranked club team in the world), the St Thomas Centennials (2009 host team of the Senior Canadians and ranked 10th in the world rankings) and the defending South Perth Champion Sebringville Sting. Jarvis and St Thomas will showcase some of the top Senior Mens talent from across the province and Canada with their squads. The Sting will provide some of the top local talent and will bolster their line-up this weekend with a smattering of other South Perth stars and current Kitchener Rivershark Twins. It should make for an exciting weekend of fastball in Tavistock!!

On top of the excellent fastball entertainment that will be provided, the event will also have a liscensed beer tent both days, a BBQ all weekend to be run by our local junior mens fastball team, 50/50 draws and a little added entertainment in the tent beginning around 9:00pm on Saturday night. Former Fastball Legend Brian "Chubbs" Stere and and Steve Kieswetter of the popular local band "Ragged Glory", will provide the fastpitch patrons with some excellent acoustic entertainment to finish the evening off in grand fashion. It should be a great weekend for all that attend.

All games will be played at the Tavistock Queens Park (weather permitting) located adjacent to the Tavistock Arena. This charming old park is lined with large, mature trees and a playground area for children. A terrific place to spend a weekend for the entire family. Tavistock has been planning to host a large Major Level Mens Event in the future. It may happen as early as 2010. This weekend's event is the next step in that process. Please join us in Tavistock for an exciting weekend of Senior Fastball entertainment and family fun.
