USAdefeats Canada at Canada Cup
 
(Surrey,BC) – After the game was delayed by an hour due to rain, USA handed theCanadian Senior Women’s National Team their second loss of the tournament by defeatingthem by a 10-0 score in a four inning run-rule shortened game. American pitcherCat Osterman held Canada hitless through three innings before Katie Burkhartcame on in relief and gave up Canada’s only hit of the night to MelanieMatthews (Surrey, BC).
 
USAwasted no time in jumping all over Canada, as Caitlin Lowe reached on an error,and Ashley Charters followed with a single to set-up the Americans at secondand third with no outs in the bottom half of the first inning. Natasha Watleyfollowed with a two-run single, and later scored on a two-run homerun by AlissaHaber, giving USA a 4-0 lead.
 
TheUnited States added another run in the second on Canadian fielding error, andthree more in the third on a two-run triple by Andrea Duran followed by an RBIsingle by Jennie Finch. USA completed the scoring with two runs in the bottomof the fourth inning, as Alissa Haber delivered a run-scoring single and AndreaDuran hit a sacrifice fly.
 
NewcomersMarisa Litster (North Saanich, BC), Kylie Hovinga (La Vista, Nebraska) and LeahMcIntosh (Whitby, ON) shared pitching duties for Canada. Litster allowed threeearned runs on four hits in two innings of work, striking out one batter.Hovinga then came on in relief, allowing three more runs on four hits with a strikeoutin one inning. McIntosh pitched the fourth inning, allowing two runs on twohits and two walks, recording two outs before the run-rule kicked in.
 
Inother action on Day 3 of the Canada Cup, Venezuela defeated the Netherlands 3-1and surprised Australia with a 4-3 win.
 
OnDay 4 of the tournament, Canada (2-2) will take on Venezuela (2-2) at 3:30pmPDT before facing the Netherlands (1-2) at 8:30pm PDT.
