U19International Men’s Softball Championship – Day 4 Results
 
(Charlottetown,PEI) – Saskatchewan won their final round-robin game to finish as the onlyundefeated team in the tournament, as New Zealand lost their last game tofinish on top of the other pool with a 5-1 record.
 
BritishColumbia 8, Newfoundland and Labrador 3
Trailing3-1 after four innings, BC exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth todefeat Newfoundland and Labrador. Brett Richards and Mike Wysicki each drove intwo runs for BC, while six other players added hits. Tyrone Fewer and AndrewWade each had an RBI for Newfoundland. Tyler Dunn earned the win in thepitcher’s circle for BC, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out 11batters.
 
NorthwestTerritories 9, Quebec 10
Ina see-saw battle, Quebec was able to break open with five runs in the bottom ofthe third inning, and added two more runs in both the fourth and the fifth, butstill had to hold off a late NWT rally to earn the 10-9 win. NWT scored fiveruns to get within one run in the top of the sixth, but was not able tocomplete the comeback. Olivier Patry, Jeason Boucher and Olivier Bourassa eachcracked two hits for Quebec, while Jonathan Roy had one hit and two runs battedin. Tyler Kuntz smacked three hits for NWT, while Andy Williams, Chad Fink andConnor Murphy each added a pair. 
 
NewBrunswick 0, Nova Scotia 8
Rened’Entremont threw a four inning no-hitter at New Brunswick, and Nova Scotiatook advantage of six NB errors to earn an 8-0 victory in four innings due tothe run-rule. D’Entremont added 10 strikeouts and only walked one. TrentMacDonald had a hit and three runs batted in, while Andrew MacIsaac producedtwo other runs.
 
Alberta1, Newfoundland and Labrador 2
Ina very good game, Alberta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, andNewfoundland and Labrador came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.Newfoundland’s Shane Boland pitched the complete game win, scattering sevenhits with four strikeouts. Andrew Gale and Tyrone Fewer both drove in a run forNewfoundland, while Trevor Aime produced Alberta’s run. 
 
Saskatchewan4, United States 3
UndefeatedSaskatchewan showed plenty of character in this game, as they tied the game 2-2in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings, and after USA took a 3-2lead in the top of the ninth inning, Saskatchewan responded with two runs inthe bottom of the inning to earn the 4-3 win. Jesse Osika was the big hero forSaskatchewan, notching two hits and driving in three runs. Matt Karpinka alsochipped in with two hits. Gentry Mitchell and Mike Hayes each had a hit and anRBI for the United States, who only managed five hits off Saskatchewan pitcherPatrick Burns, who struck out 16 batters to earn the nine inning win.
 
PrinceEdward Island 3, Quebec 5
Aftera bad start to their tournament going 0-3, Quebec turned things around bywinning their third consecutive game to even their record at 3-3. PEI took a1-0 lead after one and led 2-1 after four, but Quebec scored two runs in thetop of the fifth and two more in the top of the seventh to earn the victory.Olivier Patry and Jeason Boucher each knocked two hits with a run batted in forQuebec, while Samuel Labrecque had a hit and scored two runs. T.J. Campbell andNicco Coughlin led PEI at the plate, each going two-for-three with an RBI.Jonathan Prevost earned the win, allowing two runs on seven hits with sevenstrikeouts over five innings.
 
Ontario7, Manitoba 0
Ontarioimproved to 4-1 by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second and five morethe following inning to defeat Manitoba in five innings. Travis Gibson drove infour runs for Ontario, who took advantage of three Manitoba errors to score twoother runs. Ian Wallwork also added a hit and a run batted in, and scoredtwice. Only Carlson Murdock and Tyson Kinaschuk were able to get hits offOntario pitcher Brendan Roach, who struck out four batters in the win.
 
Alberta3, New Zealand 1
Albertaevened its record to 3-3 by overtaking previously unbeaten New Zealand, whofell to 5-1 after this 3-1 loss. Alberta opened the scoring with two runs inthe top of the fourth, and after New Zealand cut that lead in half in thebottom of the inning, Alberta added an insurance run in the sixth and was ableto hold off NZ to pick up the win. Jordy Jones led Alberta at the plate withtwo hits and two runs batted in, while five other batters were able to come upwith a hit. Right fielder Saan Tuoro cracked a solo homerun for the Kiwis, whoonly managed four hits off Alberta pitcher Bryn Redhead, who struck out 10batters.
 
BritishColumbia 8, Prince Edward Island 2
Inthe final game of round robin play, PEI took an early 2-0 lead in the top ofthe first, but British Columbia came back to score eight unanswered runs aspitcher Kory Bell only allowed three hits and struck out nine batters to earnthe win. Brad Robinson, Aaron King and Dylan Ackerman all drove in two runs forBC, while Jordan Kroad added two hits. Nicky Gallant had an RBI triple for PEI,while Matt Kelly drove in Gallant with a sacrifice fly, but that was all theoffence PEI was able to produce.
 
Afterthe completion of the preliminary round, the top four teams from each pool haveadvanced to the Championship Round, while the bottom five will compete in the“City of Charlottetown” Championship.
