U19International Men’s Softball Championship – Day 5 Playoff Results
 
(Charlottetown,PEI) – Sunday’s final four teams have been decided, while the “City ofCharlottetown” Championship was also played yesterday at the U19 InternationalMen’s Softball Championship.

Saskatchewan3, British Columbia 0
Topseeded Saskatchewan from one division took on second seeded BC in the firstplayoff game of the day. Saskatchewan scored two runs in the second inning andadded one in the third, as pitcher Devon McCullough fired a two-hitter at BC,striking out 10 batters. Kalyn Robinson notched two hits and drove in a run forSaskatchewan, while Patrick Burns also had a hit and an RBI. Jesse Grieve andAaron King are the two only players to register a hit for BC.
 
Ontario10, New Zealand 0
NewZealand, the top seed from the second division, played second-seeded Ontario,who scored three runs in the top of the first, two in the third and added fivemore in the fifth to win the game on the run-rule. Ian Wallwork held NZ to onlythree hits and struck out seven batters, and also went two-for-three at theplate with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Adam Alexander added twoRBI’s, while Brian Phillips had two hits and scored three runs. MatthewWilliams, Jack Fletcher and Matthew Oxley are the only NZ hitters to get hits.
 
NovaScotia 6, Quebec 0
Thirdranked Nova Scotia took on fourth ranked Quebec in another crossover playoffgame, as NS pitcher Justin Schofield earned the complete game win, striking outthree batters and allowing only five hits. Nova Scotia opened the scoring withtwo runs in the bottom of the first, and added three in the third and one inthe sixth. Patrick Avery had a hit and two runs batted in for NS, while RyanGillis chipped in with a hit and an RBI. Olivier Patry collected two hits forQuebec, who were the first team eliminated as only the top two teams from eachdivision earned double-life.
 
USA9, Newfoundland and Labrador 2
Fourthseeded USA took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning over third seededNewfoundland and Labrador, but Newfoundland responded with two runs in thebottom of the frame. However, USA added two runs in the third, three in thefourth and one in the fifth to win the game in five innings due to therun-rule. Mitch Warne was three-for-three with an RBI for USA, while RobbyBlack, Gentry Mitchell and Mike Hayes all added a hit and a run batted in.Andrew Gale led Newfoundland at the plate with two hits, while Shane Boland andRylee Costello were the only others to get hits. The loss eliminatedNewfoundland and Labrador from the tournament.
 
NovaScotia 8, British Columbia 2
NovaScotia scored single runs in the first and second innings, and added two morein each of the third, fifth and seventh innings to eliminate BC from the tournament.Patrick Avery held BC to only two runs and five hits, striking out ninebatters. Trent MacDonald led NS at the plate, going two-for-four with two runsbatted in and a run scored, while Patrick Avery added three hits. Brad Robinsondrove in both runs for BC, while Ben Edgington, Brett Richards, Mike Wysickiand Mike Turner were the other BC players to register hits.
 
USA2, New Zealand 4
Ina very close ball game, New Zealand broke a 2-2 tie by scoring two runs in thebottom of the sixth inning to eliminate the United States. New Zealand pitcherJack Fletcher fired a two-hitter, with both runs being unearned. He struck out11 American batters to pick up the win. Saan Tuoro led New Zealand at the platewith two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Curtis Huata had twohits and an RBI and Bradley Young chipped in with a hit and an RBI. Only Mitchand Justin Warne were able to produce hits for the USA.

NewBrunswick 4, Prince Edward Island 5
Mostof the scoring came early, as PEI scored four runs in the top of the first withNew Brunswick responding with three in the bottom half of the inning. NB tiedthe game at 4-4 in the second, but PEI scored the winning run in the top of thefifth, holding on for the 5-4 win. Jeff MacIsaac collected three hits for PEI,while Shawn Arsenault drove in two runs. T.J. Campbell and Lucus Dyment eachadded two hits and an RBI. Nathan Milliea registered a hit and a run batted infor NB, while Tanner Agnew added a hit and scored two runs.
 
Manitoba3, Northwest Territories 8
Ina game that was much closer than the score would indicate, the NorthwestTerritories took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning when Manitobascored a run to force an extra inning. However, NWT scored five runs in the topof the eighth to register the win. Manitoba did not help its own cause,committing eight errors in the game. Kyle Chmarney had two hits and drove in arun for NWT, while Andy Williams and Garret Hinchey each added a pair of hits.Tyler Kuntz scored three times. Mark Hildebrand notched two hits and a runbatted in for Manitoba, while Tanner Waldvogel added a hit and an RBI.
 
PrinceEdward Island 0, Alberta 1
Ina very exciting game, Alberta scored the only run of the game in the bottom ofthe seventh inning to pick up the win. Alberta pitcher Michael Friedrich onlysurrendered two hits, while Jeff MacIsaac and Dave Arsenault shared thepitching duties for PEI, allowing only four hits combined. Pinch-hitter AldenTallman was the hero for Alberta, driving in Tyson Soucy for the walk-off win.Brayden Arcand and Michael Friedrich are the only other players to get a hitfor Alberta. Nicco Coughlin had both hits for PEI.
 
NorthwestTerritories 6, Alberta 1
Inthe City of Charlottetown Championship Game, the Northwest Territories scoredthree runs in the top of the fifth and added two more in the seventh on routeto the 6-1 win. NWT pitcher Travis Conner earned the complete-game win,allowing only one run on two hits with six strikeouts. Kirk Sangris had a biggame at the plate, going three-for-four with three runs batted in and threeruns scored, while Travis Conner added two hits and two runs scored. OnlyTrevor Aime and Michael Friedrich were able to produce hits for Alberta.
 
Thismorning, undefeated Saskatchewan will face Ontario (9:00am) with the winnergetting a direct berth to the Championship game (3:00pm ADT). The losing teamwill face the winner between Nova Scotia and New Zealand (11:00am ADT) at1:00pm to determine who will earn the second berth to the Championship game.
