The Scarborough, ON Indians made an unbelievable comeback run to win the IC Under 19 Developmental Championship at Heritage Park, Frankenmuth, MI over the weekend.  Scarborough lost their opening round game to Newmarket, ON 3-2 early Saturday morning.   The Indians started their long road to the championship with a pair of victories on Saturday, as they defeated Tavistock, ON 8-3 and ended the evening with a hard fought 4-3 victory over the Munger Firemen.  Jon Gwizdala allowed 2 unearned runs to suffer the defeat in the circle for Munger.

 

Scarborough reeled off 6 straight victories on Sunday to capture the championship.  Scarborough shot down Oxford 3-2 in the early morning game never left the ball diamond the rest of the day.  Along the way they defeated Sebringville, 16-2, Glencoe, 4-1, Newmarket, 4-1, Straffordville, 24-4 in 3 innings, and completed the sweep by winning the if necessary game over Straffordville, 8-3. 

 

Saturday started out with a three hour rain delay, but the weather and the ball heated up throughout the weekend.  The two local teams, and only US teams in the tournament, Richville and Munger represented themselves very well for the most part.  Although neither team won a game, they competed well against their Canadian challengers.  It turned out to be a great weekend of ball, and many new players and fans were introduced to boys fastpitch softball.
