Canadamoves to 2-0 with win over Czech Republic at ISF Men’s World Championship
 
(Saskatoon,SK) – It only took two innings of scoring, but the Canadian Senior Men’sNational Team improved to 2-0 after defeating the Czech Republic 9-2 in fiveinnings on Day 2 of the ISF Men’s World Championship. Local favourites TrevorEthier (Saskatoon, SK) and Keith Mackintosh (Melfort, SK) were majorcontributors for Canada on this night, as Ethier pitched four solid innings toearn the win while Mackintosh drove in five runs for the red and white.
 
TheCzech Republic opened the scoring in the top of the second when Jaroslav Müllercracked a solo homerun to centerfield, but Canada responded right away byputting up six runs in the bottom of the frame. Derek Mayson (North Vancouver,BC) got things started for Canada by hammering a triple off the wall incenterfield, and later scored on a two-out line-drive single over third base byRyan Wolfe (Melbourne, ON). Mackintosh later delivered a two-run single up themiddle, and Colin Abbott (Portugal’s Cove, NL) launched a huge three-run blastto give Canada a 6-1 lead.
 
Canadadid not let up the following inning, as Derek Mayson led off with a walk andSean O’Brien (St. John’s, NL) followed with a single before Mackintosh launcheda three-run homerun of his own, giving Canada the 9-1 lead. The Czech Republicproduced a run on an RBI single by Müller in the top of the fifth, but was notable to pus across any more runs to extend the game.
 
Ethierwas very solid in the pitchers circle for Canada, allowing one run on threehits with seven strikeouts in four innings of work. Dean Holoien (Melfort, SK)pitched the fifth, allowing one run on two hits, but struck out the last Czechbatter to end the game.

Tomorrow,Canada (2-0) will face its toughest opponent of the round-robin when they will takeon Australia (2-0) at 3:30pm CST. Both teams will bring their best as theyfight for top spot in the pool.
 
Inother scores on a busy Day 2 of the ISF Men’s World Championship, Venezuelablanked Argentina 11-0, the United States shut out Denmark 7-0, Japan defeatedBotswana 9-4, South Africa shut down Indonesia 7-0, New Zealand hammered GreatBritain 14-0, the Philippines outscored Mexico 7-4 and Australia beat PuertoRico 10-0.
