Canadatoo much for Indonesia at ISF Men’s World Championship
 
(Saskatoon,SK) – The Canadian Senior Men’s National Team proved to be too much forIndonesia, who is making its first ISF Men’s World Championship appearancesince 1992. After being retired in order in the first, Canada scored six runsin the second, added two more in the third and one in the fourth to take the9-0 win in five innings due to the run rule. The win improved Canada’s firstplace record in Pool B to 4-0.
 
ColinAbbott (Portugal’s Cove, NL) got the scoring started in the second, launching ahomerun to deep right field. Derek Mayson (North Vancouver, BC) followed up byhustling for a double on a fly ball just beyond the second baseman’s head, andlater scored on a single by Craig Crawford (Markham, ON). After a single and astolen base by Rob Giesbrecht (Landmark, MB) to place runners at second andthird, Jeff Ellsworth (St. Lawrence, PEI) hit a shallow fly ball to left thatdropped in, plating both runners. The very next batter, Kevin Schellenberg(Squamish, BC) drove a pitch over the right field fence to give Canada a 6-0lead.
 
Inthe third, Derek Mayson drove a pitch through the right side of the infield,and Craig Crawford later smacked one up the middle to set up Canada at firstand third. Sean O’Brien (St. John’s, NL) then hit another shallow fly ball toleft that fell just in front of the left fielder, allowing both runners toscore, increasing the lead to 8-0. The red and white added another run in thefourth on a solo homerun by Ian Fehrman (Townsend, ON).
 
DeanHoloien (Melfort, SK) pitched the five-inning win for Canada, allowing two hitswith nine strikeouts. At the plate, Colin Abbott, Derek Mayson and CraigCrawford all cracked two hits, while Jeff Ellsworth, Kevin Schellenberg andSean O’Brien each had a hit and two runs batted in.
