Hørsholm Hurricanes win the European Cup Winners Cup!


Last years runners up in Denmark, Hørsholm Hurricanes won the Cup Winners Cup - a tournament for top European club teams - played last week in the dutch town of Spijkenisse outside Rotterdam. Several international players participated in the event: For Centrals, NL: Kiwi pitcher Frank Pointon, for Spikes, NL: Aspens Louis Joglar, US and pitcher Penese Iosefo, NZ. Czech team, Tempo had ISF players Patrick Kolkus, Tomas Benda and Jiri Brabec. The Hurricanes had 6 ISF plaeyers + GB catcher Kevin Stockford. Frederik Terkelsen from Broken Bow/Patsy’s spearheaded the Hurricanes offence and eventually was named MVP of the tournament.

Hurricanes were 6-1 in round robin play, securing first place. In the page playoff, the danish team finished off the Centrals from Holland with a 9-3 score for a spot in the grand final. Spikes beat Tempo 11-0 in the 3-4 game and in a very exciting game Centrals beat Spikes 7-6 on a walk off homerun by Frank Pointon for the second spot in the final.

In the grand final, the Hurricanes quickly jumped out in front with 3 runs in the first inning and cruised to a 11-0 victory. Thomas Hansen and Valdemar Terkelsen (Fred’s younger brother) both hit homeruns in the game. Martin Holmberg (3 innings) and Valdemar Terkelsen (2 inn) combined for the shutout.

The championship was the first ever for the Hurricanes in the CWC’s 8 year history.
