RICK McDONALD MEMORIAL  FASTBALL LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
 
                                               SECOND ROUND SEMI FINAL ACTION GETS UNDERWAY
 
 SEMI FINALS (2/3)  Series  "B"       DOG HOUSE SPORTSBAR AND EATERY NORTH STARS(4) VS GARSON HOUNDS(2)                          
                                 

                                        The second round of the league semi finals best of three afffairs got underway Monday night in Azilda at the Rick McDonald Memorial Park  .. To the surprise of many both games were major blow outs.
                                   In the opener , the defending league champions from 2008 , the Dog House Sportsbar and Eatery Noth Stars scored erly and often on their way to a 18-5 trouncing of the Garson Hounds . Jordy "Swede" Dahlvick (3-0) went the distance in collecting his third victory of the playofffs in giving up 7 hits , issuing two base on balls and striking out 10 batters. Gary Lamothe (2-2) also went the distance and was tagged with the loss , his second in the playoffs. Gary gave up 25 hits  and striking out 1 batter. Designated player ,Joel Belanger led the `way for the North Stars hitting 5 for 6 (double) with teammate Moe Coutu going 4 for 5 (double,triple) while Todd Parsons hit 3 for 4 (double , two run homer-his fourth of the playoffs) in a losing cause for the Hounds .The North Stars take a 1-0 lead in the series.
 
SEMI FINALS (2/3) Series "A"      PICKEREL RIVER CARDINALS(3) VS PARRY ISLAND HAWKS(1) 
      
                                           In the nightcap , the Pickerel River Cardinals who've been struggling of late took on an opponent who's been out of action for two weeks and it showed right away.The Cardinals pound the starting pitcher Al Guenette for six runs in the opening two frames and then cruise the restr of the way for a first game victory of 12-2 and a 1-0 lead in the series. Jonathan Contin (0-2) goers the distance in picking up up his first victory of the playoffs giving up 10 hits and striking out 4 batters. Al Guenette(0-1) starts for the Hawks and is tagged with the loss. Matt Tobobundung comes in to relieve Al for the last two innings.Al and Matt combined to give up 17 hits , issue 4 base on balls and strike out 5 batters.Ed Panamick Jr(double,triple) leads the way for the Cardinals with a perfect 3 for 3 performance at the dish with tea,,ate Pat Brennan Jr going 3 for 5 (two run shot to left field) while Walter Tobobundung Jr hits 3 for 4 (double) in a losing cause for the Hawks.
 
   Both series resume on Thursday night September the 3rd in Garson at the Lorne Brady Memorial Park . Series "B" goes at 7 PM followed by series "A" at 9 PM . Should both series end  Thursday night then the league championship series (3/5) would start on Thursday September the 10th in Garson. Should one series in the semis not end on Thursday then the finals would not start till Monday September the 14th in Azilda.
    Players and fans are reminded of the following three important events:
      1. The 4th annual All-Star Classic Extravaganza goes Saturday September the 12th in Capreol starting at 3 PM with the skills competition(running,throwing,home run derby,fastest pitcher).That will be followed at 4:30 PM with the 9 inning game pitting the North Shore All-Stars  VS the Rick McDonald Memorial Fasdtball League Al Stars
            Record in first three years  2006 at Terry Fox dubbed the `sun game Rick McDonald 7  North Shore 6'
                                                         2007 at Hanmer dubbbed the cold game Rick McDonald 6 North Shore 5
                                                         2008 at Elliot Lake dubbed the wet game Rick McDonald 5 North Shore 5(called after 5 innings)
        2 . The annual Banquet/Awards celebration on Saturday September the 26th downstairs hall of the Frood Hotel
                             $15 a person   players, wives,girlfriends ,fans are`werlcome.You may buy your ticket ahead of time from Roger Legendre at the games or pay at the door.A dance with a band will follow.Everthing starts at 6:30 PM with cocktails
         3. Three of our league teams will take part the 22nd annual World Seniors Fastball Tournament in North Bay starting on Friday September the 4th.The teams from here are Sudbury Relics,Garson Hounds and the Athletics. Brad Rienguette presently fighting a brave battle against pancreatic/liver cancer will be there as the 2009 honorary chairperson.He will also be honored in a very special manner.
