The Owen Sound Selects Fastball program has confirmed they have submitted their bid to once again host the Canadian Junior Men's Fastball Championship Tournament.

Owen Sound has been the host center the past two seasons, conducting the Championship Tournament at Duncan McLellan Park, and have sent their bid to Softball Canada to host the Championship again in August of 2010.

Selects President Bill Simpson confirms the official application to host the National Junior Championship event was delivered last week and should be under consideration now.

According to the Softball Canada website  ( www.softball.ca ) the 2010 Canadian Junior Men's Championship Tournament host is vacant.

Simpson and the Selects understand that host bids for National Championship Tournaments must be in place two years in advance of the tournament.

However, when no host center has been assigned, the Selects believe that a competing bid to host the tournament must be received within two weeks of the initial offer.

In both 2008 & 2009, Owen Sound was awarded the hosting duties when no other bid was forthcoming.

Simpson relates the 2009 National Junior Men's tournament in Owen Sound was more successful than the 2008 event.

He cites two significant factors for that development.

First, the weather for 2009 was far superior than what occurred in 2008 when rain wiped out part or all of 3 days of scheduled competition.

Plus, the experience of hosting in 2008, allowed the Owen Sound committee to review, revise and build towards a better event in 2009.

Furthermore, Simpson indicates the level of interest in joining the Selects volunteer base to organize the event has grown.

On the field, Simpson looks at the projection for the Selects organization from both a Midget & Junior perspective, and believes Owen Sound is capable of operating two Junior clubs in 2010.
