SRFL Finals - Minesing 2009 Champs

The Minesing Monarchs claimed their third consecutiveSRFL championship trophy on Tuesday night with a 7-4 victory over the VaseyCountrymen.
 
Minesing started things off on the right foot in thebottom of the first inning as leadoff batter John McNabb slammed a liner to theleft center gap for a leadoff triple.
McNabb was then plated by a Keith Rankin single overthird base.  Rankin would the score as Rob Mclean drove him in with an RBIdouble.
 
Vasey responded in the top of the second inning witha run after Cameron Phillips reached on a two out double and was cashed by a DougDutton single to right field.
 
After holding Minesing off the score sheet in the topof the bottom of the second, Vasey delivered three runs in the top of the third. Todd Weatherell reached base on asingle and was plated via a Steve Eakley 2-run homerun to centerfield. Brad Robinson then showed his brilliant speed in beating out a bunt single, eventuallyscoring via two consecutive misplayed balls by the Minesing infield. 
 
Trailing 4-2, Minesing responded in the bottom of thethird with two runs.   Keith Rankin led of the inning with a singleand Nathan ball reached via a walk.  Both runners advanced thanks to a questionableinfield fly (to short left field) that was dropped by the Vasey shortstop andresulted in the players running for the next bag. Without a force on, the Vaseythird baseman was unaware that a tag was to be applied and all runners weresafe. Rankin was then plated by a fielders choice to first base and Ball wascashed in thanks to a Greg Mclean bloop single into no mans land.
 
Vasey would fail to score in the fourth setting upanother two run inning for Minesing and a lead they would not relinquish.
 
John McNabb started off the fourth with a single butwas then thrown out at second on a fielder’s choice to short by Chuck Wilson.Wilson then advancedto second on a pass ball and was plated by a Keith Rankin single off secondbase. Rankin would also come into score after Paul Priest delivered a singlejust under the Vasey second baseman’s glove.
 
Minesing would plate one more run in the bottom ofthe sixth as Keith Rankin finished off a perfect night at the e plate with alead off double and was driven home by a Paul Priest triple to left field.
 
Kurt Glover went the distance for Minesing surrendering4 runs on 6 hits and striking out 3.
